What you’ll do

We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join the Oncology Translational Medicine group in our Clinical Translational Laboratory. You will be based in a world-class centre for discovery and development of innovative cancer medicines; based at the heart of the Cambridge UK biomedical research community, at the forefront of the evolution of translational science for the global oncology group at AstraZeneca. You will have the opportunity to impact an industry-leading portfolio of programs from early clinical development of novel therapeutics through post-marketing opportunities that support approved targeted therapies.

  • As a laboratory-based senior scientist your focus is to deliver biomarker data on clinical trial samples based on the best available science and technologies.

  • You will be measuring target engagement reliably and quantifiably to advise clinical decisions for selecting therapeutically relevant doses and schedules.

  • You will understand key cancer pathway interactions and feedback mechanisms in clinical samples to guide rational drug combinations.

  • You will provide expert interpretation of the data, identifying innovative solutions to problems and putting forward plans for future biomarker assays.

  • Generating disease linkage data to guide indication selection and targeted patient populations.

Essential for the role

  • PhD or master’s degree with expertise in a relevant field.

  • Experience in protein analysis and proteomics methods.

  • Strong experience in molecular and cell biology, with experience in assay development for new biomarkers.

  • Experience in working with peripheral blood and isolation of its components and/or on developing assays in peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

  • Experience in cancer biology and peer-reviewed publications in the field of molecular cancer biology.

  • Experience of conducting studies for Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

  • Ability to lead from the bench in problem solving and the development of innovative solutions.

  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues both within Translational Medicine and across multidisciplinary teams and able to work well within group environments.

Desirable for the role

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry and the drug development process.

  • Expertise in one or more AZ portfolio areas: DNA damage and repair, tumour drivers and resistance, hormone receptor signalling, epigenetics
