Job Description

The Solutions Consultant (SC) is responsible for contributing to winning viable business through the development of customized solutions based on deep product and solution expertise. To successfully do this, the SA will be responsible for understanding client needs, researching existing and potential solutions that may benefit the client, engaging with relevant internal stakeholders, helping align the requirements of the clients with key stakeholders, developing a written solution and presenting or reporting relevant information to the client, operations teams and other key stakeholders. In addition, this position may include long-term support for enterprise-level clients, product development activities, marketing or other initiatives that meet important needs of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To support winning new business:

Understand the prospect’s needs:

  • Collaborate with sales teams in the early stages of the sales cycle (confirm opportunity, get a clear understanding of the prospect’s needs, prepare queries for the solution development phase, offer operational solutions to prospect’s needs or problems and set the limits of service, etc.).
  • Help collect the information needed to understand the prospect’s needs on behalf of RWS’s key stakeholders. Information gathering requires research about the prospect (the company, division and industry), as well as engaging with the prospect via email, phone and in-person meetings.
  • Actively participate in conference calls, meetings and other forms of communication.
  • Identify problematic areas/pain points and implement solutions to address varying business processes.
  • Be prepared to credibly discuss localization, CAT and MT technologies, including both RWS and third party products, establish best practices with prospects and provide excellent customer service in all client-facing activities.
  • Share information with the operations team or other stakeholders so that they are aware of new leads and opportunities being worked on that may involve them.
  • Understand and provide detailed information about RWS’s services, products and capabilities.

Develop solutions:

  • Recommend best-fit and value-add solutions and provide guidance on how to leverage the proposed solution to its fullest potential.
  • Engage key internal stakeholders, including relevant subject matter experts and operations teams as needed, in the process of creating the customized solution.
  • Research tools and processes as necessary. The SC should expect to acquire necessary information from outside the company if experience or expertise is otherwise not available.
  • Accurately scope, quote and provide pricing guidance based on sound and documented methodologies as part of proposed solutions.
  • Ensure any proposed solution is viable (meets the prospect’s needs and is achievable, sustainable and profitable).
  • Complete RFx forms and pricing sheets provided by the prospect and/or collaborate with the pursuit team on creating proposals that clearly explain the solutions.

Present solutions:

  • Collaborate with the pursuit team to create clear and compelling presentations on proposed solutions for prospects and internal stakeholders.
  • Arrange and provide demos of proposed technology to educate prospects on our products/solutions and how they can address the client’s needs.
  • Participate in communications, conference calls and onsite meetings as needed to support the sale.

Post-sales support:

  • Document the solution and train the onboarding and production teams on the processes and tools if needed.
  • Provide support as needed to the program team in setting up and executing the solution.
  • Capturing client feedback for sales and product management/marketing.

To support internal initiatives:

  • Report regularly on results, issues and roadblocks.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge management, best practices and trainings.
  • Collaborate on continuous process improvement initiatives, including creating new content for the sales process and driving innovation in all areas of client services.
  • Monitor market and competitor activities and share findings with sales and solutions teams.
  • Must be able to work with light supervision. Products and deliveries will be reviewed by the sales pursuit team, other SC or Sr. SC coaches and management.
  • Assist in providing higher visibility to the company by participating in trade shows, speaking at conferences and writing articles for publication (optional).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Fluent in English. Additional language knowledge a plus.
  • Understanding of translation, localization, internationalization, testing and engineering services, as well as knowledge of localization needs across many industries (IT, manufacturing, retail, etc.) and by client role (marketer, tech writer, developer, etc.).
  • Expert knowledge of MS Office, in particular Excel. Ability to develop macros a plus.
  • Strong understanding of translation technology required. Should be very familiar with major CAT, TMS and MT solutions and be able to discuss variables impacting cost and quality as well as the limitations of each technology.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages; programming skills highly beneficial

  • Ability to educate client on localization topics and evangelize best practices of the industry

  • Knowledge of Strategic and Conceptual Selling or Customer-Centric Selling methodologies a plus

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, with a focus on language, language technology, software development or management preferred
  • Team management experience
  • 5+ years of operational experience at engineering management or program management levels

LANGUAGE/MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees and to the management of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
