Eaton Research Labs (ERL) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Specialist Engineer in the area of Power Electronics to support research, development & engineering focused on new technology and/or product introductions. This position will be based out of our Menomonee Falls Wi location. Relocation assistance will be provided if needed. Position Overview: Leads complex global technology realization programs/projects involving multiple components utilizing our internal project execution processes, including Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Technical Reviews. In this role you will: Lead complex global technology realization programs/projects involving multiple components utilizing our internal project execution processes, including Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Technical Reviews. Lead the development of global strategies for technology roadmaps for broad applications that are linked to and supportive of the overall CRT and business strategies. Lead or co-lead ideation events (Innovation Summits, Design Bursts, etc.). Serve as (or support) Program Managers in the development of detailed project plans and value proposition. Lead globally diverse cross-functional project teams effectively and manage selected projects under the guidelines of our internal stage-gate process. Serve as Principal Investigator in government proposal preparation and/or project execution of large projects Initiate and develops solid relationships with both engineering and business leaders within Eaton to drive strong business cases for new commercial applications and acquire needed resources and funding Strategically identify leading external partnerships, outside technologies and best practices to bring to Eaton. Serve as a subject matter expert externally and internally. This includes leadership/active participation in external industry and technical groups, mentoring junior level staff and consulting internal business and engineering partners. Set IP strategy with business unit stakeholders and actively contributes to IP generation Serve as a key participant in department and CRT process improvements Understand program/project risks and is able to influence key stakeholders to make pivot/persevere decisions When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we — as individuals and as a company — are stronger. #LI-LD1 Qualifications Basic Qualifications: PhD degree from an accredited institution with 7 years of industrial or entrepreneurial experience OR Master's degree in Electrical engineering or Electronics from an accredited institution with 10 years of industrial or entrepreneurial experience Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Power Conversion or Power Systems Extensive experience in system architecture of low and medium voltage power conversion, medium voltage motor drive technology, drive/converter topologies, high-power electronics; electric machines and controls; electrification of vehicles, energy storage, and grid connected converters; alternative power generation and distribution. and power systems engineering, including creating specifications, defining application space, designing technical solution concepts, and building and testing prototypes to validate models/hypotheses and documenting results. Experience with the design and analysis of magnetic components for power electronics circuits—such as high-frequency inductors and transformers—and an extensive knowledge of the materials and construction techniques and how they affect their characteristics. Understanding of thermal management affect the overall performance of the system, appreciation for the trade-offs necessary to achieve designs that meet performance requirements and cost objective solutions Position Criteria: Proven track record in new technology development and/or product introductions with multiple stakeholders in a matrix organization.
