How will you make an impact?
 
Sr. Staff Engineers are key to defining and developing instrument and consumable products in the Genetic Sciences Division. These individuals lead system definition & system integration aspects of product development in collaboration with deeply knowledgeable, specialized engineers and scientists to develop instruments and applications for our world class qPCR, Capillary Electrophoresis, Rapid DNA, and Microarray platforms in both RUO and IVD markets.
 
What will you do?      
 
The Senior Staff Engineer, Systems Engineering will have responsibility for providing direction and focus to drive Division objectives as follows:
 
 

  • Design, develop and test new life science systems from prototype designs through transfer to manufacturing
  • In collaboration with manufacturing use process improvement methods to drive constant improvement in our products
  • Recommend design or process changes in compliance with internal quality systems
  • Ensure that decisions are data-driven, by designing multifactorial experiments, analyzing data, and clearly presenting results to cross functional teams
  • Manage technical deliverables on projects including adhering to schedules, managing outside vendors, and mitigating technical risks
 
How will you get here?
 
Education / Experience
 
 
  • PhD degree in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or similarly related field AND 7 years of experience in a life science instrumentation and consumables in R&D setting, preferably in genomics; OR master’s degree in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or similarly related field AND 10 years of experience in a life science instrumentation and consumables in R&D setting, preferably in genomics
 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
 
  • Experience in mid volume life science instrument product development, including design, documentations, testing, and transfer to manufacturing
  • Hands on experience with system design and troubleshooting, including root cause investigation
  • Demonstrated success working in a global matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively build and manage internal and external relationships
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross functional teams with other engineering and science disciplines to solve technical issues
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and handle multiple programs/projects and priorities
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%, domestic or internationally
 
Preferred Qualifications
 
  • Demonstrated experience in designing consumables for life science applications, experience designing microfluidic devices
  • Experience interfacing with assay development teams in molecular and cell biology, hands-on skills in assay development
