About this job
The primary function of the Data Center Technician will involve supporting data center activities within a co-location facility. They will be responsible for the installation, upgrade, maintenance, and decommissioning of servers, networking, appliances, and data storage equipment. The candidate will ensure all hardware is functioning correctly and support Tech Delivery peers at other co-location facilities.
Responsibilities
- Manage physical datacenter operations and capacity reporting
- Manage with vendors the datacenter facilities, power, cooling, monitoring and security
- Daily check and walk through of the DC and report any hardware alerts to support teams
- Review and document datacenter cabinet capacity
- Keep datacenter floor area organized and clean
- Point of contact for any new TELCO links being installed, fault finding and cabling
- Coordination during datacenter power-down / power-up process and equipment moves
- Provide console access and remote support as required
- Handle Escalated calls from Service Desk which require Touch Services
- Provides weekend\evening on-call support coverage as and when required
- Attend meetings with support personnel when required. Capture and publish meeting topics and action items
- Manage external vendors for onsite support visits for issues and resolution
- Triage and diagnose physical server and networking equipment issues
- Perform ongoing maintenance activities on server, storage, and networking hardware
- Ensures that monitoring of the infrastructure elements is performed on a regular and consistent basis to avoid any delays in processing schedules that may impact service levels
- Respond to monitoring notifications including troubleshooting, identifying, and fixing the problem as well as rebooting the server if required.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and replace (RMA) physical server and networking components
- Manage and arrange deliveries of replacement parts and coordinate new hardware installations by external vendors
- Upgrade internal system components, including CPUs, memory, hard drives, and network cables
- Interface with co-location providers, participation/interaction with other IT support teams and vendors in resolving open cases
- Installation of 3rd Party Software
- Assist the architecture team designing highly available layouts
- Collaborate with Infrastructure engineering teams on cybersecurity and network efficiency
- Maintain datacenter layout and inventory documentation
- Assist with production support issues and remediation in a professional and timely manner
- Take direction and perform any other duties as assigned
- Able to lift 50 lbs. without assistance
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in Data Center support
- Experience working with and installation of server, networking, and storage equipment including Cisco UCS (Unified Computing System) setup
- Experienced in using Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
- Strong technical expertise troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with servers and networking equipment, as well as data center appliances
- Awareness and understanding of disaster recovery hardware failover principals and procedures
- Strong data/root cause analysis skills
- Basic Project Management principles
- Understand current business, products, and processes, including business uses and requirements.
- Ability to self-manage and maintain organized documentation while completing necessary daily tasks and initiatives
- Ability to identify and leverage best practices
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Effectively prepare and deliver presentations
