Senior Technical Specialist, Hydroprocessing Catalysts & Clean Fuels
As Senior Technical Specialist, Hydroprocessing Catalysts & Clean Fuels your role will be in the Global Technical Design Team reporting to Clean Fuels Technology Technical Excellence Team of our Catalysts Business Unit. In this job, based in our Amsterdam office (The Netherlands), you will apply your skills in creating technical proposals in the field of hydroprocessing in the oil refineries. You will also monitor and evaluate the hydroprocessing unit operations and Albemarle’s catalyst performance with the aim to increase unit performance and customer satisfaction, ultimately resulting in repeat business. You will be active in the field of refineries’ hydroprocessing units for middle distillate and FCC pretreat applications. For this purpose, you will use state-of-the-art in-house kinetic models and tools. Your role is to support our Technical Sales Department and Technical Specialists optimally and to help realize the business and sales objectives.
In your role you will support the Global Technical Design manager in standardization and efficiency improvements, in preparing training and best practices documentation and conducting trainings globally as well as maintaining and sharing technical knowledge within the Technical Excellence and Technical Sales teams. Mentoring junior colleagues within the department with the aim to increase hydroprocessing catalyst application know-how will be part of the job.
Additionally in your role you will identify possibilities for improvements for the models and tools that are used and assist in validating new or updated models and tools. For this you will work closely with our Modeling Team.
You have Master’s Degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering or equivalent and 5-10 years of relevant experience as hydroprocessing technical specialist or refinery process engineer, related to operation of hydroprocessing units and have in depth understanding of hydrotreating market and products.
You have an inquiring, flexible and service minded attitude. You have good communication, presentation, and collaboration skills. You can communicate with various groups to implement change. You have analytical and solution-oriented thinking and show creativity and initiative in solving technical (improvement) issues. You like to work in international teams and are self-motivating.
Responsibilities:
- Develop technical forecasts and catalyst loading diagrams for refill opportunities (middle distillates / FCC-PT) using state-of-the-art in-house kinetic models, including reference cases selection and logging of the forecasting process
- Prepare high quality technical proposals for hydroprocessing units for existing and potential customers with the aim of selling catalyst, in consultation and co-operation with our Technical Specialists and Technical Sales
- Monitor and evaluate hydroprocessing unit operations and catalyst performance in consultation with our Technical Specialists and Technical Sales, with the aim to increase unit performance and customer satisfaction, ultimately resulting in repeat business
- Support the Global Technical Design manager in preparing training materials and best practices documentation, conduct trainings globally and maintain and share technical knowledge within the Technical Excellence and Technical Sales teams.
- For catalyst performance evaluation purposes, set-up of Hydroprocessing Unit Monitoring model and/or add unit data to existing Unit Monitoring model
- Adopt standardized work processes and best practices and contribute to and make suggestions for standardization and efficiency improvement efforts
- Contribute to maintaining and sharing technical knowledge within Technical Excellence and Technical Sales teams
- Contribute to validation of new releases or improvements of the kinetic models and tools
Education:
- MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
Experience and qualifications:
- 5-10 years of relevant experience as hydroprocessing technical specialist or refinery process engineer, related to operation of hydroprocessing units
- In depth understanding of hydrotreating market and products.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, to be able to work in an international team
- Service minded attitude and team focus through an active contribution to a joint result
