ABB is seeking a Senior Technician, responsible for providing the US Energy Industries Business Line, a part of our Industrial Automation Division, with physical and electronic setup and alteration of Information Systems for the expressed purpose of hosting ABB Industrial Control Systems.
Your responsibilities
- Physical and electronic setup and alteration of PC’s and system networks to meet customer and contract specifications
- Participate in the activities of testing ABB industrial control system products including the Symphony and System 800xA product line
- Physical demands include the packing and unpacking of PC’s and peripheral hardware as they are staged on tables or mounted in server cabinets
- Read an assembly drawing and construct a server cabinet by mounting slide rails and other associated hardware necessary to accommodate the installation of rack-mount PC’s, network switches / routers, KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) extenders, and monitors
- Route and permanently install cables in a manner that allows full range of motion for all slide-out equipment while preparing a system that is professional in appearance and functionality
- Perform installations of hardware and software in several environments including Windows based servers with an emphasis on Windows 2016 server.
- Establishing and configuring system networks comprised of servers, workstations, communication devices, and peripheral equipment
- In some instances, the network is configured to allow remote access connectivity through a secure VPN (virtual personal network) link
- The duties of this position will require the candidate to become versed in the various legacy ABB software products including Conductor NT, Power Generation Portal and Process Portal B
- Interface with project engineers and managers, technicians, customers, and resources at offsite locations including Mexico and Canada.
Your background
- Basic Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or related field OR two years’ experience in process control related field service work.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of Windows configuration and administration, operating system fundamentals, and network components and infrastructure including networking hardware and basic networking theory.
- Basic understanding of virtualization, routing and firewalls.
- An aptitude for mechanical assembly.
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the United States.
