Eaton’s Life Safety Division is currently seeking a Senior Technician - Prototype to join our team. This position is based at our Sarasota, FL. facility. Position Overview: The Senior Technician will be responsible for assembling, reworking, testing, and documenting work as needed to support product and system development. This position will also require knowledge of lab and test equipment maintenance needed to maximize test time and ensure reliable test systems. In this function you will: Plan, write and execute testing Troubleshoot to be able to methodically analyze and determine root cause Work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team Source and maintain prototyping equipment such as soldering irons, scopes, and other test equipment Interface with test and development engineers to carry out assigned tasks as required for engineering development and testing Maintain engineering parts inventory and supplies necessary to enable in-house prototype builds Maintain a safe lab working environment Perform system and product testing following test plans and test cases Participate in design reviews and provide input into prototype feasibility Use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we — as individuals and as a company — are stronger. Qualifications Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED from accredited institution Minimum 3 years experience in the electronic industry Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future No relocation benefit is offered for this role – only candidates within a 50 mile radius of our Sarasota, FL office will be considered. Preferred Qualifications: Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience Demonstrate proficiency in lab equipment use such as oscilloscopes, AC/DC bench power supplies, multimeters Knowledge of the life safety fire industry and it’s governing codes and standards Ability to review installation and user documents for content accuracy and use case description Experience measuring audio equipment quality (Power, THD+N, bandwidth, etc.) Basic understanding of networking protocols and topologies Experience with regulatory requirements and product standards such as UL, IEC, FCC, etc. preferred Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization. Ability to make administrative decisions related to carrying-out basic duties of the job. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Position Criteria: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency in engineering problem solving and root cause analysis Demonstrated proficiency identifying, evaluating and selecting design alternatives Demonstrated proficiency verifying design solutions through rigorous test methods and report writing Demonstrated proficiency implementing design solutions via engineering change management processes Knowledge of relevant industry standards and how they apply to the product, including practice in design verification and validation We are committed to ensuring equal employment opportunities for all job applicants and employees.
