What you’ll do

As a Senior Scientist you'll be part of the Cell assay Development team a team where we collaborate to support projects aiming to impact patients' lives. We are responsible for the generation of cell assays that drives the chemistry in our projects as well as bespoke mechanism of action studies. This position will give you the opportunity to work in a dynamic and enthusiastic environment, whilst delivering critical support to projects. You will use a wide range of technologies to design and develop high throughput cell assays delivering the foundation to drive cell based drug discovery across the AstraZeneca oncology portfolio. You will be an experienced lab-based scientist, interact across a broad range of oncology teams and impact global initiatives within Discovery Sciences.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To be a lab-based scientist, delivering miniaturised cell assays to characterise pathway and target activity, engagement and phenotypic readouts to make a significant contribution to the practical delivery of Oncology projects in accordance with AZ guidelines.
  • Proactively collaborate and liaise with key internal stakeholders to ensure solutions are aligned with AZ strategy and stakeholder requirements.
  • Represent the Department and achieve scientific visibility through project contributions and presentations at internal meetings, as well as external collaborations, conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.

Essential Requirements

  • Formal training and proven expertise (PhD + postdoc, or equivalent experience) in in vitro pharmacology, Biology or a related setting with a sincere passion for science!
  • Expertise and enthusiasm for the development of cell based assays using a wide range of technologies to solve the different biological questions arising during the progression and support of the project in the pipeline. 
  • Ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to achieve shared objectives
  • Excellent communications skills, demonstrated through internal and external presentation opportunities

Desirable Requirements

  • An understanding of the drug discovery process (either pharma or CRO) OR of working in an academic lab that has strong links with drug discovery.
  • Mass Spectrometry knowledge
