The purpose of the position is to drive the Shariah culture and compliance adoption in APTB in an effective manner, managing the expectations within the Shariah Governance Policy Document issued by BNM. The candidate is also expected to provide general compliance support, where required.

  • Execute and deliver an effective Shariah compliance review program (30%)

  • Develop the annual compliance plan for Shariah review.

  • Execute the Shariah compliance review as per approved compliance plan. This includes stakeholder engagement, data extractions, conducting the fieldwork and drafting the findings and reports.

  • Ensure that significant issues identified during the course of the review or day-to-day monitoring are properly escalated and to further ensure that all identified issues or control gaps are duly tracked, monitored and remediated in a timely manner, and all identified issues are updated in the compliance tracking system.

  • Provide periodic compliance review progress summary (i.e. highlight material issues and trends which require management attention and discussion, etc.), to the relevant committee(s) in APTB.

  • Provide awareness, advisory and guidance on the Shariah requirements governing APTB’s operations, business, affairs and activities (25%)

  • Continuously provide updates to the relevant stakeholders (i.e. SMT, Shariah Committee and the Board) in APTB on the latest developments in legal and regulatory requirements in Islamic finance, especially in relation to Shariah Advisory Council (SAC) rulings.

  • Attend meetings or discussions as and when required and provide active input/advice on the interpretation and application of Shariah rules and regulations.

  • Develop and execute a Shariah compliance awareness plan to APTB employees on quarterly basis or as identified in the compliance plan.

  • Report to the Board, Shariah Committee and Senior Management Team (SMT) regularly on non shariah compliance issues and findings related to Shariah matters (25%)

  • Timely submission of the required reports on Shariah compliance to the Management and Board.

  • Performs other responsibilities and duties periodically assigned by supervisor in order to meet operational and/or other requirements (20%)

  • Provide the necessary support on other compliance deliverables, assessing risk in the areas of takaful product or business initiatives from areas of regulatory compliance, market conduct, privacy etc.

  • Attend to any ad-hoc compliance reviews as assigned.
