As a school administrator, the Dean of Academic Affairs’ broad goal is to ensure that classroom teaching meets the needs of all learners. As such the Dean of Academic Affairs has primary faculty-related responsibilities including related to ensuring curriculum alignment across the disciplines, observing and evaluating teachers, helping modify and adapt teaching practices to suit specific disciplines and student groups, providing input on teacher recruitment, and managing teaching resources.
JOB GOALS: 1. Understand the strengths and needs of VMA students to develop an ideal learning experience 2. Collect, analyze, and apply data to improve schoolwide student learning outcomes and academic achievements 3. Use data to adjust and enhance the curriculum for the UK Track and VMA Middle School 4. Grow leadership capacity in the different departments and in the Academic Directors 5. Ensure school administrators understand the needs of students and teachers and propose plans to meet those needs 6. Set high teaching standards for faculty while providing adequate support in meeting those standards 7. Methodically allocate teaching resources (funds, classroom space, teachers) to the maximum benefit for student learning
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master's Degree required; Doctorate preferred 2. At least 10 years teaching experience in secondary school, with experience in both high school and middle school 3. At least five years of experience at Academic Dean or Vice Principal level or above 4. Familiar with and experience in UK Curriculum and Examinations and Middle School curricula. IB experience will be an advantage. 5. Experience in using a variety of data to inform strategic academic and whole school decisions
