Job Description

The Shopfloor Systems Engineer Analyst:

  • Provides operational support for critical manufacturing systems and applications.
  • Addresses level 2 and level 3 application issues including night and weekend support as part of a rotation.
  • Designs business processes and innovation change initiatives in partnership with the relevant local, global and/or central business departments with great autonomy.
  • Facilitates delivery of IT services to process partners in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Ensures strategic alignment with BMW Group core IT processes.
  • Establishes strong partnerships with both business and IT process partners which culminates into the delivery of sustainable solutions to complex problems.
  • Assists BMW Colleagues continuously through direct communications and project results.
  • Supports agreements with business and support functions in own area of responsibility.
  • Completes assignments with minimal direct supervision.
  • Manages manufacturing software topics with providers including escalations when necessary.
  • Ensures systems in own area are patched and upgraded in a timely manner.
  • Performs application DBA (Database Administration) tasks for applications and processes in own area of responsibility. Tasks may include but not be limited to; index rebuilds, archiving, etc.
  • Analyzes existing and future planned initiatives, short, mid, and longterm planning with prioritization of requirements based on local and BMW Group strategy.
  • Prepares, facilitates, and sustains the local business prioritization process and the input to the global prioritization process.
  • Ensures effective systems change control, problem management, and incident management; thereby reducing risk, ensuring quality, and business continuity.
  • Ensures the integrity, reliability, and reproduction of our internally and externally developed software products.
  • Ensures the IT security and compliance of both planned systems as well as existing systems under operational control in own area.
  • Develops and manages project plans to include defining deliverables, budget adherence, key milestones and critical paths.
  • Reports and manages risks as well as progress of Lead Sagas, Sagas, Epics and User Stories in own area of responsibility.
  • Manages efforts to design, develop, train, and deploy systems and procedures for assigned area of responsibility.
  • Ensures target achievement is consistently attained in assigned area.
  • Ensures that all aspects of information protection, data, and systems security pertaining to area of responsibility adhere to BMW Group Policies and architectures.
  • Promotes the use of standard processes and solutions within own area of responsibility.
  • Promotes and facilitates the use of the Agile methodology for all initiatives and tasks in own area of responsibility.
  • Understands and models VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving.
  • Adheres to 5S and Safety Standards and Principles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • BA/BS degree (Information Technology or Computer Science preferred) or the equivalent of 4 years  professional experience in IT Applications development and support.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated success in IT.
  • 2+ years of experience in an entry-level engineering role.
  • 2+ years of experience planning, analyzing, designing, developing, testing, implementing, operating, documenting and training of enterprise IT applications.
  • 2+ years of experience in implementing/configuring IT systems.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a customer service orientated environment.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • 2+ years of experience with a variety of programming languages (preferably C/ C++, Python, JAVA, HTML, JSP, J2EE, SQL, Oracle, UNIX/LINUX).
  • 2+ years of experience using relational database (Oracle preferred) and operating systems (UNIX/LINUX preferred).
  • 2+ years knowledge of IT Infrastructure components including but not limited to; Operating Systems, Networks, Databases, Internet Technologies, etc.
  • 2+ years specializing in application operations and database operations.
  • 1+ years working in Agile projects.
