Job Description

Would you like to be part of an exciting and dynamic team that owns communications for Intel in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA)? Lead and be responsible for external communications in South Africa? In the South Africa Communications Specialist role, which is part of Intel's Global Communications Group (GCG), you will closely collaborate with the local sales and marketing teams to drive awareness and conviction of Intel's strategy for long-term growth with major media outlets in South Africa.

The South Africa Communications Specialist reports directly to the EMEA Communications Director, is part of a multi-cultural, pan-EMEA organization and a key member of the bigger international team. The role focuses on building strong relationships with corporate, daily, and technical media in South Africa, engaging the local media ecosystem to promote and protect Intel's reputation. This role manages internal and external communications, key spokespeople and local communications agencies and defines the local communications strategy aligned to global communications objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and/or administrate public relations programs, directed primarily toward the media and secondarily to industry, stockholders and/or employees
  • Drive creative storytelling and integrated communications programs along with our partner ecosystem on tech, corporate and employee communications
  • Manage all internal and external communications in-country
  • Develop/manage a proactive communications strategy with key media and earned influencers
  • Manage Intel South Africa's communications agencies
  • Manage highly sensitive matters with executive management regarding company's reputation and ensure company has 'one voice' throughout our communications.
  • Manage incoming media inquiries and develop close relationships with key reporters/publications
  • Lead communications activities and events (e.g., press conferences, roundtables, showcases and partner events)
  • Identify relevant speaking opportunities and manage incoming requests
  • Collaborate closely with the EMEA and global communications teams to ensure local initiatives are consistent with the broader strategy
  • Work with the technology media to highlight product announcements and explain new features
  • Work with the EMEA Communications Director to capably manage local budgets
  • Respond to crisis, customer/client requests or events as they occur


Qualifications

Preferred Education Background:

  • Degree in journalism, public relations, engineering, or related areas.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in public relations, external communications, journalism, writing and editing - either in-house or agency side


Ideal Experience:

  • English fluency or native in both verbal and written communication
  • The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the IT industry, computer science and partner ecosystem in order to communicate effectively with different audiences
  • Ability to think strategically and ensure relevancy by 'connecting-the-dots' and effectively map Intel's business objectives to conversations in the marketplace
  • Knowledge of Intel's strategy, products, and roadmap as well as key industry trends and themes
  • A strong media relations foundation, including a network of existing relationships as well as the ability to foster new relationships with key media organizations in order to increase positive media coverage for Intel
  • Conflict management, ability to defuse difficult situations and resolve issues in constructive ways
  • Proven experience of, and the ability to be a confident and capable storyteller
  • Customer and team oriented. Ability to build strong relationships and can successfully partner with peers across Intel, other industry players as well as governmental organizations
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills and can craft and deliver key messages to a variety of audiences through highly effective presentation and public speaking skills
  • Able to identify and leverage opportunities to advance the company's communications objectives in creative, memorable ways that utilizes a variety of media vehicles social media, traditional media, broadcast, etc.
  • Results driven. Thrives on hard work and consistent challenge. Proven ability to be hands-on and as well as strategic, extracting and analyzing data to tell a story, influence a narrative and challenge assumptions
