Specialist IS Oracle Database Engineer

Amgen is seeking a Specialist IS Oracle Database Engineer at its Capability Center in Tampa, FL who will report to a Senior Manager of Information Systems. This role supports Infrastructure Operations and will have the primary responsibility for all activities related to Oracle Database administration in a 24x7 regulated environment at an SME Level.

The Global Digital Technology Information Services team provides global enterprise infrastructure support managing physical and virtual machines, supporting public cloud service providers, operating systems, databases, middleware, storage, and backup technologies. The primary database technologies supported by this group are Oracle and MSSQL.  This also includes other RDBMS technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS Aurora etc.  The incumbent is expected to learn and become an SME on new database technologies in addition to Oracle.

Key Responsibilities

• Database administration: installation, upgrades and optimization, access control administration, backup/recovery, database vendor contract administration, disaster recovery support, development and test environment support, documentation, architect infrastructure and methodologies improvements
• Run Ansible playbooks for installation of Oracle Database software and database creation.
• Review and provide input for application and database design decisions to ensure that application solutions meet the expected performance, security, scalability, maintainability and reliability.
• Support and automate routine activities by modifying or creating new Ansible Playbooks.
• Develop and document standards, procedures, and work instructions for database support that increases productivity for operations
• Monitor security bulletins to obtain information of potential threats; analyze and lead necessary security patch implementations to ensure ongoing database security
• Accountable for all audit and security compliance issues (Amgen & government regulations) related to databases
• Participate in rotational 24x7 On-Call Support and assist/lead Root Cause Analysis reviews as needed

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate

OR Master’s degree and 3 years of Information Systems and Oracle DBA experience

OR Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of Information Systems and Oracle DBA experience

OR Associate’s degree and 10 years of Information Systems and Oracle DBA experience

OR High school diploma/GED and 12 years of Information Systems and Oracle DBA experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Database Certifications and experience with Oracle, Oracle RAC, Oracle Exadata

• Experience managing and administering Oracle Database and related services & monitoring systems
• Previous experience mentoring junior DBAs and providing guidance on Database Administration, Performance, Reporting and monitoring
• Scripting and ITIL experience and managing regulated systems (preferably in Pharma sector)

• Understanding of operating system tools for performance issues
• Working knowledge on NAS/SAN storage, Clustering and HA configurations
• Excellent data-driven problem solving and analytical skills
• Proven experience as part of a high-performance team
• Skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues
