Job Description

We are seeking a specialist user experience designer to join our team and be a part of building products and capabilities aimed at accelerating digital innovation across Amgen. In this role you will be a member of our centralized UX team, working with product teams of data scientists, business analysts, software engineers and others to develop new and forward-thinking capabilities for Amgen. You will work closely with product owners and others to understand user needs, prototype and evaluate design options, recommend improvements, and help prioritize features based on user engagement. The team will rely on your strategic leadership to ensure the user’s voice is a driving force in building and advancing this work. This is a remote work opportunity.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Partner with the overall product owner and other team members to conceptualize and evolve the vision for products and new capabilities
  • Facilitate design thinking and design sprint workshops
  • Plan and conduct user research to develop and maintain personas, experience maps, or other artifacts that reflect research insights
  • Establish information architecture and content strategy as appropriate
  • Conduct comparative design analysis and/or heuristic evaluations, and use the results to drive design decisions
  • Build, review, refine, and deliver design artifacts such as wireframes or prototypes to illustrate product vision, concepts, and/or design options
  • Draft usability review plans which outline research goals, tasks, and facilitator questions to be covered during usability review sessions
  • Facilitate one-on-one usability review sessions, document and analyze key insights and observations, and decide how designs will change based on the findings
  • Lead design critique sessions to consider trade-offs and options regarding design and feature choices for better adoption and experience
  • Establish relevant UX measures as part of a broader set of key performance indicators
  • Collaborate with fellow UX practitioners across the company to share insights, seek/provide design feedback, and help mature Amgen’s user-centered practices

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master’s degree and 2 years of User Experience Design experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of User Experience Design experience

OR

Associate’s degree and 10 years of User Experience Design experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of User Experience Design experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience as a lead user experience designer or researcher, including the ability to scope and lead user research activities, facilitate usability reviews, conduct heuristic design reviews, wireframe, and prototype
  • Direct involvement or leadership in one or more of the following areas: using data and analytics to drive insights, data visualization, content strategy, inclusive design, and design systems
  • Experience working as a member of a product team and ability to partner with software engineers, business analysts, product owner, and others
  • Creative problem-solver who proposes, evaluates, and selects the best design options based on a deep understanding of user needs and context
  • Intellectual curiosity coupled with advanced quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, aimed at advancing effective user-centered solutions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Miro, XD or other wireframing tool, Balsamiq, and Optimal Workshop
  • Possesses a clear grasp of how UX methods align with software development approaches, including Agile
