The Quality Data Science group uses Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning to deliver insights to help Amgen and specifically the Quality organization ensure that we deliver safe and effective therapeutics. We create tools and deploy models working with functional areas to help them make data driven decisions. Additionally, we automate statistical analyses to reduce turnaround time and improve the quality of those analyses.
We are seeking a Data Scientist to join our team to develop and maintain tools and models to gain insight that will drive business performance for Amgen and our patients. The successful applicant will show the ability to communicate well with cross functional teams. They will be able to self-direct their efforts. As part of this role you will:
Work in a team to deliver NLP/ML models to develop insights from data to ensure the quality of Amgen’s products.
Automate routine statistical analyses with tools like: R Shiny, Python Dash, and Spotfire.
Manage a portfolio of tools and provide support to the business users.
Partner with cross functional teams on projects and/or programs which derive insights that deliver substantial business value for Amgen and our patients

Basic Qualifications:
Master’s degree
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of Engineering experience
OR
Associate’s degree and 6 years of Engineering experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 8 years of Engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Physics, Statistics, or Operations Research
Experience with databases
Programming experience with Python, R, experience with ML libraries
Familiarity with programming in Spark or other parallel computing
Experience working with large datasets (pharma data or marketing data preferred)
Detailed technical proficiency with strong logical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent organization/planning skills and talent for managing many large and complex datasets.
Ability to communicate analyses in a clear, precise, and practical manner
Experience working with and cleaning text data
Basic understanding of Amazon Web Services (ex: S3, Redshift, EC2, Sagemaker, IAM, etc.)
