Job Description

The Cardiometabolic Department at Amgen in South San Francisco is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist to perform research studies in the discovery, validation, and development of novel therapies to treat cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary, cross-functional team, collaborate with research scientists with diverse expertise, and contribute to multiple projects at both early and late stages. The science-based, patient-first environment at Amgen will allow the successful candidate to reach his/her full potential and apply his/her scientific expertise to benefit patients who need innovative medicines.

Position Responsibilities

  • Independently design, perform and optimize protein-, cell-, or tissue-based experiments to achieve research goals.
  • Analyze and interpret data, communicate with manager and colleagues in written and oral formats, present results at team meetings.
  • Collaborate with other scientists within and outside the department to advance projects.

Basic Qualifications

Master’s degree and 3 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate or Doctorate completed by July 2021.
  • Extensive experience in molecular biology, cell biology, or biochemistry
  • Ability to independently design and perform experiments and analyze and interpret results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong assay development and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Experience with animal tissue samples, cardio-metabolic animal models, hiPSC-derived cardiomyocyte technologies, protein quality control, the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway, or targeted protein degradation is a plus
