Amgen’s Cytometry Sciences group at Amgen’s South San Francisco facilities (ASF) is located in the epicenter of the biopharmaceutical research hub. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and outgoing cytometrist who is energized by interacting with others in a fast-paced setting and sharing the common goal to develop therapeutics designed to address unmet medical needs.
We are seeking a motivated Senior Associate Scientist with experience in the life sciences as applied to the field of cytometry. This role is laboratory-centered in a dynamic core facility which utilizes flow cytometry, cell sorting and imaging platforms to answer important biological questions in the drug discovery process. A primary focus of this role will be to maintain and operate a variety of flow cytometry analyzers, cell sorters and/or imaging platforms that are accessed by scientists for interrogating cell biology. Will also be involved in customized projects in support of multiple therapeutic area projects across Amgen as projects warrant. The Senior Associate Scientist must be detail oriented, be able to work with moderate supervision and exhibit safe working practices. It is essential that the Senior Associate Scientist thrive in a team-oriented environment and have the desire to embrace continuous self-improvement and motivation with the goal of increasing practical scientific abilities.
Position Responsibilities
Calibrating, troubleshooting and operating multiparameter flow cytometers including cell sorters
Identifying instrument problems and performing basic troubleshooting and remediation
Working in a biosafety level 2 plus laboratory environment which includes hands-on specimen processing and immunostaining of biological samples from human and animal sources
Basic Qualifications
Master’s degree and 3 years of scientific experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of scientific experience
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant industry experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a biopharmaceutical setting
Coursework in Immunology or Cell Biology
A working knowledge of good documentation practices and scientific conduct as defined by standard operating procedures
Hands-on knowledge of Becton Dickinson flow cytometers and related software
