The Sr. Cost Accountant position will be part of the cost accounting function within the LSG segment of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

What will you do?

• Collaborate with the Operations Finance team to analyze cost data to identify productivity opportunities to improve the total cost of product manufactured in Pleasanton, CA manufacturing site. This position can be in Pleasanton, CA / Carlsbad, CA.
• Analyze and maintain cost accounting and inventory systems including product costing, inventory control, variance analysis and calculation of excess and obsolete inventory.
• Execute regular tasks relating to the monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial close process, including reconciliations.
• Cost modeling for business cases; including new product development, Make vs Buy analysis and capital appropriations.
• Support technical accounting issues related to the month end and quarter end financial close and understand the accounting impact of proposed transactions regarding different functions and ensure GAAP is maintained.
• Support the Global Annual Cost Roll by working directly with Value Stream managers to review new standards and their impacts on margin, inventory revaluation and Capitalized Variance netting, along with updating Labor and Overhead rates.
• Maintain data integrity globally for SAP costing; this includes general data maintenance and working closely with IT and Finance to understand and effectively communicate impact.
• Support Pleasanton site team from a cost accounting perspective to help quantify savings for potential projects/initiatives.
• Interface with different functions and effectively communicate with different levels of employees in the company and demonstrate judgment, tact, and diplomacy when dealing with internal and external customers.
• Participate in process improvements in data reporting and extracts of data and reconcile between source SAP/E1 systems GL and transactional data to consolidated reporting in (HFM) Hyperion.
• Support the accounting integration of mergers and acquisition of production movements.
• Support SOX and External auditors by providing clear supporting explanations and documents.
• Maintain data integrity globally for SAP costing; this includes cost re-rolls, PPV, WOV and cost discrepancies.
• Business partner with on-site Finance to maintain transparency and address issues across departments/sites.

How will you get here?

• You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or the equivalent education and experience
• MBA, CPA/CMA a plus
• You have at least 6-8 years of progressive accounting or finance experience
• Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems is a must (SAP / JD Edwards E1 knowledge is a strong preference)
• Hands on research and resolution experience covering areas of technical accounting
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
