The Opportunity

This Sr. Electrical Engineer position works out of our Sylmar, CA location.  

Sr. Electrical Engineer oversees design and testing of the RF communications hardware within Abbott’s cardiac implantable medical devices. Leads development of the product PCB layout, RF antenna, evaluation boards, test fixtures, and tools. Applies engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems. Exercises technical judgement in planning, organizing, performing, coordinating, and/or directing of engineering work. Performs engineering studies. Remains abreast of and consults on technical advancements. Identifies and routinely uses the most effective and cost-efficient practices to execute processes; continually evaluates their effectiveness and appropriateness.

What You’ll Work On

  • Lead RF development activities including defining requirements, specifications, design & simulation, risk analysis and characterization testing.

  • One or more of the following: RF PCB layout, antenna design, RF system design, link budget analysis

  • Conducts evaluations, tests, and analyses related to feasibility and function.

  • Performs troubleshooting and fault isolation activities on a variety of breadboards and hybrids.

  • Conducts measurements specified in design verification plans, documents and tabulates results, and provides engineering test reports.

  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.  Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical/electronic engineering or related engineering field.

  • Minimum 6 years of relevant work experience in design and test of RF communication systems.

  • Experience in RF circuit and PCB layout simulations.

  • Experience using lab tools such as Spectrum Analyzers, Vector Network Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, etc.

  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical/electronic engineering or related engineering field with minimum 4-5 years of relevant work experience.

  • Familiarity with PCB layout simulation tools (Keysight ADS, Cadence AWR), antenna simulation (CST, Ansys HFSS), programming/scripting (C, C++, Python, or equivalent).

  • Working knowledge of electromagnetic fields and human body interactions. Knowledge of wireless communications standards such as Bluetooth and WiFi.

The base pay for this position is $82,100.00 – $164,100.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
