Summary:

The Sr. Manager of Engineering reports to the Sr. Director of Engineering for Acute Therapies. Baxter offers a variety of products for patients with kidney disease as their clinical lifestyle needs evolve.  We also provide adjunctive therapies where purification of the blood is key to successful clinical outcomes.  Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is a therapy for critically ill patients with acute kidney injury. This position is responsible for creating and managing a department vision that aligns with the organization's vision or strategic plan. Based on significant technical expertise, reviews and approves complex design concepts and provides general direction to technical staff. Utilizes solid understanding of theories and practices of a variety of disciplines to manage complex projects or programs within boundaries of quality, time and budget. Acknowledged outside of business unit or division for input on programs of some magnitude.  Exhibits creativity and innovation in completing divisional and cross-functional business unit responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and integration of project strategies which may cross several disciplines; evaluate alternatives against agreed criteria. With team, select strategies and appropriate level of risk and understanding full range of implications across the system.
  • Develop and implement new product/processes requiring development of technologies.
  • Plan and schedule project implementation. Responsible for defining scope of work for project team.
  • Manage, identify, hire, develop and recognize technical staff; Create and maintain employee and organizational development; as well as HR plans, which meet business needs.
  • Apply specialized knowledge in a creative way to a broad range of difficult problems.
  • Review and analyze proposals to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures. Approve and submit proposal to Sr. Management. Responsible for preparation of
    project cost estimates up to multi-million-dollar range. Manages and forecasts all project expenditures and cost tracking.
  • Responsible for policy setting and defining procedures for the staff in accomplishing and documenting projects. Assist in the development of overall engineering department policy.
  • Approve protocols and support documentation (engineering change requests, system change forms, etc.) in order to secure project release. Develop staff members to assume technical approver role.
  • Develop strategic resource plan from multiple global locations and engineering resources.

Qualifications:

  • BS in relevant engineering disciplines, MS preferred, 10-12 years of experience.
  • Must be well versed in engineering disciplines (e.g. fluid flow, thermodynamics, heat transfer, static's and dynamics, engineering materials).
  • Must possess knowledge of related disciplines.  Knowledge of GMPs, FDA guidelines, purchasing practices and process validation.
  • Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple cross-functional teams simultaneously.
  • Ability to design and influence outside of immediate scope of responsibility.
  • Maintain industry contacts and be involved in industry interest groups.
  • Proven track record of management/leadership effectiveness.
