Location/Division Specific Information

Located preferably in California or near a major site.

Part of the newly established Genetic Testing Solutions vertical within GSD.

Travel expectation 25-40%

How will you make an impact?

The role will develop strategy and drive implementation of the Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System throughout the fast growing GTS vertical to enable profitable growth, improve quality, elevate the customer experience and increase employee engagement. The position partners with functional leaders within Ops and SG&A to build lean capability and streamline processes. The role involves facilitating the lean fundamentals, such as Strategy deployment, visual management/5S, value stream mapping, leader standard work, metric boards, stand-up meetings and project funnel development/execution. It also involves developing capability in these areas by training teams and providing coaching to all levels.

What will you do?

  • Lead and coach functional teams to streamline processes to improve the customer experience, enable profitable growth and become more efficient.
  • Partner with leaders within GTS to establish and refine KPI’s for the new vertical in the areas of customer, finance, people and quality.
  • Diplomatically cultivate an action-biased culture of continuous improvement to improve KPIs, and set up any needed training programs or structure to support.
  • Enhance problem solving capability within the organization at all levels
  • Train, coach and follow-up with teams to ensure system improvements are sustained and the stakeholders are running the processes independently
  • Establish a GTS PPI Steering Committee to ensure there is an active pipeline of initiatives aligned to business priorities, metrics and results. Ensure that there is a solid sustainability mechanism/review for past projects.
  • Help teams identify new projects through value stream mapping, data analysis and daily management systems and partner with finance to ensure projects have positive benefits achieved.
  • Work with the corporate PPI team to promote/standardize the PPI Business System further and share best practices.
  • Manage some high-level cross-functional improvement projects as a project manager.

How will you get here?

Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, operations or business

Experience

  • Leadership roles from disciplines such as operations, finance, commercial, R&D/engineering, quality, or product management
  • A Lean Practitioner mindset with 3+ years of experience and a ‘hands-on’ track record of leading teams indirectly to achieve results.
  • Experience in the following tools is preferred:
    • Strategic Deployment/X matrix, Value stream mapping, visual management/5S, standard work, metric boards, gemba, stand-up meetings and project funnel development.
  • Expertise in problem-solving utilizing a formal program/process
  • Hands-on experience in managing cross functional projects or changes throughout all levels of business

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with and positively influence leadership and all levels of the organization
  • A holistic thinker who can look Division-wide to integrate and streamline systems for optimal benefit.
  • Catalyst to drive continuous improvement in both non-operational and operational areas, including connecting the cross-functional resources to remove waste along the extended value streams.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for driving improvement and leading change
  • Proven track record for developing, training, and coaching teams
  • Great communicator, including solid written, oral and presentation-giving skills.
  • Excellent Financial Acumen
