Job Description Summary

The Sr. Manager Product Engineering WH&C will provide overall strategic and organizational leadership for product engineering of the Women’s Health & Cancer product portfolio. This position is responsible for leading a team of R&D associates and overseeing the life-cycle management activities for the products through the full change control process in a regulated environment. The Sr. Manager will ensure the business objectives, as related to product engineering and product maintenance, are met. S/he will foster a culture that learns fast and constantly iterates towards improvement, with a focus on delivering measurable results and completing sustaining projects on time and on budget.

Job Description

Leadership

  • Provide strategic and organizational leadership for product engineering of the Women’s Health & Cancer product portfolio by; creating a vision, developing plans and executing these for top quality product performance and continuous improvement.
  • Provide a focal point for WH&C sustaining efforts to assure effective cross-functional working relationships including Hardware, Software & Systems Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Operations, QA/RA, Medical and Service, across multiple locations.
  • Build and nurture a R&D Cytology Systems team that embraces innovation, creativity, quality and reliability.
  • Leverage the use of internal and external resources to maximize their effectiveness.


Product Engineering

  • Responsibilities include all aspects of product change management: software, hardware, consumables, etc.
  • Facilitates and supports, through management and project teams, the completion of product engineering projects across the boundaries of geography.
  • Enhance and mature the software development lifecycle by applying industry best practices, processes and metrics.
  • Drive standardization and re-use across different projects, where applicable.
  • Foster a culture that maintains relationships with key customers to facilitate on-going flow of information concerning current and new product needs, product development initiatives and market conditions that impact WH&C products.
  • A focus on improving the customer experience of WH&C products through: procedural knowledge, customer focus, user centered design and usability.

Performance Management

  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff for professional development, which includes regular development planning/execution, mentoring, coaching, education and training.
  • Provide department-wide consistency in performance accelerators by providing individual feedback and guidance.
  • Administer company-wide talent management and total reward programs such as performance management, HR planning and compensation.
  • As functional lead, perform workforce planning to ensure ready and available source of qualified software professionals for new product development efforts


Quality/Compliance

  • Participates in compliance audits, Corrective And Preventive Action (CAPA) activities, and product compliant investigations as required to support the business.
  • Implement processes within the product engineering team that improve the quality and compliance of products.
  • Ensure that all departmental personnel are aware of and operate according to Becton Dickinson's Quality System Standards and Business Conduct Policies

Min. Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science or Physical Science
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of increasing responsibility in a variety of product development or business management; experience focused primarily on complex systems is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of direct people management experience, leading teams in product development; preferably including complex electro-mechanical devices.
  • Demonstrated ability working independently and handling multiple deadline-driven projects simultaneously.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience developing, delivering, deploying and maintaining complex products ideally for the medical industry is required for this position. Must include experience working in a regulated environment while providing a high level of productivity and responsiveness to business needs/schedules
  • Experience contracting with, and managing, third party consultants within and outside the U.S is considered a positive. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Medical device product development experience and a strong understanding of FDA, CE and ISO standards.
  • Must be a creative problem solver with a passion for innovation and creativity to bring successful solutions to market.
  • Must have the ability to deal with ambiguity, establish strong relationships and demonstrate flexibility while driving for consistency, results and accountability.  
  • Ability to make pragmatic decisions about design, architecture, and implementation.
