Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of Position:
• Provide metrology engineering and precision measurement services for plastic part first article inspection, primarily using Computed Tomography technology, in support of strategic alignment between metrology operations and plastic mold development projects.
• Advocate for and support the utilization of Computed Tomography, and other metrology technologies, in new product and process development projects.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
• Work directly with internal customers to establish metrological and project timing requirements and expectations.
• Manage all aspects of the measurement uncertainty program for measurements and data provided to internal customers.
• Setup and execute measurements and scans, perform post-processing of 3D voxel data, and deliver reports and analysis to internal customers.
• With a focus on continues improvement and through the use of operational efficiency metrics, manage the operations of the CT machine and other equipment.
• As the local x-ray safety officer, serve as an advocate for safe operation of the CT machine while ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
• Manage all preventative maintenance and interim performance verification activities for the CT machine and other metrology equipment.
Preferred Skills:
• Knowledge of Zeiss Calypso and Neoinsight software or other coordinate metrology software packages with a focus on the application of GD&T for 3D part inspections using CT voxel data.
• Basic knowledge of plastic part mold making methodologies for effective integration with the Mold Development team's strategy for rapid mold introduction and iteration.
• Working knowledge of Computed Tomography systems, precision dimensional, coordinate, and surface metrology equipment and their metrological performance characteristics.
• Knowledge of metrology fundamentals: metrological traceability, measurement uncertainty, calibration, metrological environmental effects, measurand definition, etc.
• Awareness of national and international standards relating to dimensional metrology and measurement uncertainty (e.g ISO GPS and ASME B89).
• Desire to exceed internal customer expectations for quality and delivery.
• Ambition and ability to independently fill gaps in knowledge and expertise through self-guided learning.
• Knowledge of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5-2009.
• Experience in computer-aided design using Pro-E, SolidWorks, etc.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis of data: standard deviation, mean, statistical agreement tests, data transformation, trend identification, regression analysis, curve fitting, etc.

Travel Requirements:
• Up to 10%, global travel.
• Must have the ability to obtain a passport with no restrictions preventing entry to the United States, China, Taiwan, Mexico, European Union Nations, or Brazil.
Preferred Education and Experience
• Bachelors or Masters of Science degree in Mechanical or Optical Engineering with an emphasis in, through education or research, precision engineering and metrology.
• 3+ years experience in industrial or research-based metrology is preferred but directly applicable advanced education and/or research may be substituted for work experience.
