YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Platform Engineer Lead Imaging and Sensing, are to: 

• Lead a team of engineers and technical staff to identify, evaluate, develop and implement new, safe, high-throughput field research methods including next generation sensing and imaging platforms (both aerial and terrestrial);
• Direct team in the conception, design, testing and deployment of field sensing systems to support field research operations that constantly improve precision and accuracy in research activities;
• Provide technical leadership of third-party collaborations, industry assessments and competitive intelligence to bring best-in-class technology to Research and Development teams;
• Manage teams delivering projects including technical discovery, requirements, invention, prototype and production system delivery;
• Develop the technical strategy for Breeding’s global sensing needs including aerial and terrestrial imaging platforms for field research with a team of highly qualified engineers in diverse locations and a greater matrixed team of partners in technology development with creativity, novel outlook and technical vision;
• Provide technology leadership to invent new technologies and solutions, unavailable commercially, for Research and Development field operations and lead accountable team members in the creation of company intellectual property;
• Be responsible for collaboration with external vendors to build technical knowledge base and adapt commercial capability for research;
• Provide technical know-how and resources for key Research and Development pipeline initiatives to significantly drive innovation within field operations;
• Provide constant collaboration with internal partners/customer(s) for feedback and identification of risks and new opportunities;
• Be responsible for a platform portfolio including vision setting and project identification based on understanding of business needs, value and ROI;
• Oversee key parameters of performance including novel intellectual property creation, business impact breadth and depth, schedule compliance, scope compliance and cost control;
• Develop a high level of understanding for entire field operations workflow, not just defined project scope and applies that understanding to business and technical challenges;
• Develop full portfolio of engineered systems with complete systems approach from mechanical, electrical, controls, software, data, etc.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 12 years of relevant work experience or Master’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant work experience or Ph.D. with at least eight years in Engineering, Science, agriculture or technology-related field;
• Experience in precision sensing, instrumentation, engineering, machine design, automation or agricultural sensing applications;
• Demonstrates ability to adapt to changing circumstances with flexibility and technical acuity;
• At least three years of experience in team leadership (either direct management or project-leadership);
• At least four years of experience in technical project development and control -design, research, analysis, prototype, scheduling, cost control, requirements development;
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to collaborate with people at different levels of management, engineering, suppliers and customers and effectively lead a technical team;
• Experience evaluating emergent technologies and partnering with industry and academia;
• Experience engineering, testing and deploying precision sensing and instrumentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with robotics, embedded systems, mechatronics, geospatial data, GPS technology, along with image and sensor data processing and analysis.
