Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Scientific Director US Medical Affairs, are to: 

 

  • Participate and effective interact with Global and U.S. cross-functional teams to ensure optimal research and commercialization of Bayer Cardiorenal products in the U.S. healthcare environment;
  • Ensure effective capture and reporting of insights from the healthcare community and ensuring these insights inform strategy and tactics for assigned product(s);
  • Provide scientific support to all aspects of design and execution of Medical Affairs and commercial brand planning including but not limited to scientific communication, TL engagement planning and data generation activities;
  • Support regulatory affairs activities including interactions with FDA regarding labeling, study design and pharmacovigilance reporting In collaboration with physician colleagues;
  • Serve as chair or key member of review committees for IIRs, CME activities and Ph IV observational or interventional trials;
  • Provide input on data generation strategy including appropriate trial design, endpoint selection and analytic strategies;
  • Contribute to new product development, business development and licensing activities by critically appraising data and evaluating clinical potential of investigational products, in conjunction with clinical experts;
  • Work closely with field teams to develop and maintain strong relationships with the external medical and scientific community aligned with therapeutic area strategy;
  • Support scientific and skills training of Medical Affairs and cross functional personnel in order to enhance effectiveness of their scientific communication skills;
  • Oversee creation and/or review of scientific communication topics, initiatives and tools for scientific accuracy and maximize value to external customers;
  • Demonstrate a high degree of critical thinking and ability to influence because the incumbent will be involved in complex and delicate interactions with a variety of stakeholders including but not limited to scientific experts, business leaders and patient advocates;
  • Demonstrate a high capacity to interpret new scientific data and clinical trends and their relevance to Bayer’s Cardiorenal portfolio.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Terminal doctoral degree or equivalent in the medical or life sciences field with at least five years of experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry;
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve complex problems;
  • Have a solid understanding of clinical study design, analysis and interpretation as well as the principles of observational studies and health economics;
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of teams and personnel as well as a proven ability to interact effectively with key opinion leaders;
  • Highly developed ethics and integrity, with demonstrated ethical medical decision-making skills;
  • Ability to work well on teams as well as ability to assume leadership of a team;
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills;
  • Proven ability to lead scientific projects;
  • Effective communicator with strong oral and written communications skills;
  • Demonstrated success in leading both internal and cross-functional project teams including contractors and consultants as well as performing successfully under stringent timelines and with competing priorities;
  • Attention to detail and ability to write and review complex clinical and scientific documents and materials.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience in positions of increasing responsibility with strong Medical Affairs.
