Office hours: Mon-Fri, 8am-515pm
Location: Marsiling, Singapore (5-10 mins walk from Woodlands MRT / bus interchange)
Reporting into: Staff Scientist, Molecular Biology


How Will You Make an Impact?

The Sr. Scientist, Molecular Biology, will take a leading role in verification and validation activities of Molecular Diagnostic (MDx) assays both for RUO and IVD use. The candidate will provide technical expertise on a project and department levels and will be expected to integrate into a dynamic and multidisciplinary team. The Sr. Scientist will be expected to represent V&V function on multiple projects core teams.

The successful applicant is required to exhibit a results orientated attitude with the ability to thrive in the fast paced environment of biotechnology and MDx. The Scientist will possess the technical capacity to develop experimental hypotheses, design and perform experiments, analyze data sets, and write protocols and reports. Furthermore, they will be expected to present their findings to the project team as well as on a department level. Successful candidate will possess good practical knowledge of molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, qPCR, capillary electrophoresis and nucleic acid extraction.

What will you do?

  • Leads V&V activities for new diagnostic workflows based on PCR, qPCR, capillary electrophoresis and other molecular biology methods.
  • Represents verification and validation function on a projects core teams.
  • Personally conducts experiments using molecular biology methods
  • Champions development of novel and improvement of existing test methods.
  • Authors test protocols, reports and other project lifecycle controlled documentation.
  • Designs validation studies to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Supports regulatory submissions for IVD products.
  • Problem solves using knowledge of technical product details, design control and basic regulatory issues.
  • Designs and conducts experiments independently and maintains laboratory notebook.
  • Exercises independent judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Utilizes statistical tools in experiment planning and analyzing complex data sets.
  • Leads training and guidance of junior scientists; reviews and approves other scientists’ work.
  • Adheres to internal policies and procedures, as well as external quality standards (e.g., ISO 13485:2016).

How will you get here?

I. Education

  • Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Chemistry or similar. Lower degree is acceptable for candidates with relevant work experience.

II. Experience

  • At least 3 years of biotechnology industry experience with emphasis on product development.
  • Proven track record of molecular diagnostics tests development.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in common molecular biology and biochemistry methods.
  • Working knowledge of biostatistics techniques and tools (e.g., JMP, R).

III. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Understands biotechnology product lifecycle and roles of key project team members.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiar with design of experiments (DOE) principles is desired.
  • Understanding of ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • Knowledge of IVD process for MDx
  • Ability to work well in diverse teams.
  • Self-motivated, results oriented individual who is able to work with minimal supervision.
