The Sr. Scientist, Molecular Biology will have responsibility in leading and planning scientific activities in the development of internal new product introductions (NPI). Housed within Thermo Fisher Scientific Singapore R&D, the successful candidate will provide technical expertise on a project level and will be expected to integrate into a dynamic and multidisciplinary team. The successful applicant is required to exhibit results-oriented attitude with the ability to thrive in the fast-paced environment of biotechnology. As part of the product development team, the candidate will possess the technical competency and professionalism to drive activities and deliver detail-oriented quality results in order to meet project timelines and alignment with the business needs.

Office Hours: Mon-Fri, 8-515pm
Location: Marsiling, Singapore (8-10 mins walk from Woodlands MRT / bus interchange)
Reporting to: Manager, Molecular Biology

Roles and responsibilities

• Lead the development of Molecular Diagnostic (MDx) assays for new product introduction.
• Participates in multifunctional core and R&D team meetings.
• Problem solving using knowledge of technical product details, design control and basic regulatory issues.
• Design and execute experiments independently, troubleshoot, analyze data, interpret results and keep a detailed record of experiments.
• Write procedures, protocols and reports.
• Exercise independent judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
• Recommend and execute changes to processes, procedures or products internally to the department.
• Lead training and guidance of junior team members
• Adhere to internal policies and procedures, as well as external quality standards.

Education/Experience

• Required - Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or similar (at upper second class level) with 4 years’ experience.
• Desired - Ph.D in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or similar with at least 2 year experience
• Experience with qPCR, CE and/or NGS MDx tests development for infectious diseases and/or oncology
• Knowledge of IVD testing guidelines and processes for MDx
• Experience with NGS and CE in vitro diagnostics assays would be a plus.
• Experienced in working at ISO13485
