Sr. Scientist, Pre-Pivotal Drug Product Technologies

What you will do

In this role you will join Amgen’s Pre-Pivotal Drug Product technologies organization as a member of our Synthetics Enabling Technologies Organization. You will lead a small team coordinating with partners to conduct research and evaluate innovative ways that are patient centric, differentiated from the competition, and better serving to an expanded patient population. Specifically, the successful candidate will:

• Provide scientific, technical, and managerial leadership to enable preclinical formulation development, lead optimization, and form selection of therapeutic candidates to meet preferred product presentations for synthetics programs.

• Support innovative preclinical and clinical development programs at the interface of synthetic and biologic modalities.

• Identify and assess innovative novel drug delivery technologies and their application to Amgen’s early portfolio to optimize patient experience

• Support early clinical development for synthetics liquid dosage forms (e.g. drug-in-bottle, parenteral) and technical transfers to support clinical manufacturing (GMP).

• Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners, including counterparts across R&D and Process Development, Business Development, and Amgen’s synthetics and biologics drug product organizations.

• Chip in to regulatory filings including IND and NDA and assist in answering questions from regulatory authorities.

• Guide and mentor others on day-to-day performance, long term career development and through change.

Basic qualifications:

• Doctorate degree & 2 years of scientific experience OR

• Master’s degree & 5 years of scientific experience OR

• Bachelor’s degree & 7 years of scientific experience

Preferred qualifications:

• Doctorate Degree with 4+ years of industrial experience in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy, Chemistry Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences or related field.

• It is expected that this individual will have expertise in enabling delivery in one of more of the following delivery routes: oral (e.g. permeation enhancement for synthetics or biologics); parenteral (e.g. subcutaneous sustained release); pulmonary; or topical.

• Ability to take initiative, work independently, and be flexible in responsibilities.

• Direct experience with formulation and drug product process development.

• Consistent record of implementing innovative ways and ideas.

• Ability to think strategically to align and identify needs with incoming portfolio opportunities.

• Flexibility to be able to work in a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary environment.

• Knowledge of pharmaceutical science, analytical chemistry, and drug stability of synthetic and/or biologic modalities.

• Experience in contributing to/writing regulatory filings.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills for timely documentation, presentation, and discussion of scientific results in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team-based environment.
