Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Scientist Production Insight & Optimization, are to: 

 

  • Lead multi-function teams globally to support innovation projects for Precision Breeding, with a key focus on driving nursery technical operations and process optimization supporting improvements of genetic gain and product performance through digital transformation and new technology development and deployment;
  • Think independently and utilize analytic approaches combined with knowledge of nursery operations or breeding workflows to uncover operational bottlenecks and co-create step-change digital solutions and operational improvements in alignment with new Precision Breeding workflows;
  • Identify opportunities and develop solutions for digitizing nursery operations and building capacity models in close collaboration with 30 global nursery sites and technical platform partners to improve Research and Development (R&D) seed production and product development across 5 crops to deploy products in over 40 countries;
  • Develop project plans, deliver ROI and strategic recommendations;
  • Collaborate with technical platform partners in aligning project priorities with technical resources. Use these relationships to cocreate new ways of solving operational challenges across our global nursery sites;
  • Play a critical role in bridging between nursery operations and the technical expertise of data scientists and software engineers;
  • Ensure the insights generated through sophisticated analytics translate into business impact;
  • Contribute to Breeding & R&D best practices and be responsible for developing best practices in his/her area of expertise;
  • Coordinate and oversee digital optimization projects that drive efficiency and changes in operations to align with the future breeding strategy and nursery needs;
  • Develop project review materials to communicate progress, roadblocks and opportunities against the project plan; drive alignment on remediations; communicate to key stakeholders to drive one source of truth for status.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, Analytics, Genetics, Operations Research Modeling or similar with at least 10 years of relevant experience or Master of Science degree with at least eight years of relevant experience or Ph.D. degree with at least four years of relevant experience;
  • Domain expertise of nursery operations and/or breeding workflows;
  • Demonstrate change management and effective negotiation skills to evaluate and select alternatives based on realistic limits and different perspectives, understand implication of actions before proceeding; consistently self-motivates, takes calculated risks, makes timely decisions, persists despite opposition and obstacles;
  • Good communication, project management, influential leadership skills;
  • Able to steer a cross-functional team to deliver results in fast paced, multi-cultural, cross functional teams;
  • Experience breaking down a complex problem into solvable pieces and applying scientific method to optimize current state and implement step change improvements;
  • Demonstrate ability to perform data analysis with large data sets;
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills;
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • At least five years of crop technical leadership experience.
