Job Description

Emerging Science & Innovation (ES&I) is a division of Pfizer Worldwide Research & Development and Medical (WRDM) that provides opportunities to unite leading external scientists and the biomedical community with Pfizer’s R&D efforts and experts. In partnership with Pfizer Business Development, ES&I colleagues form productive collaborations and flexible partnerships with the goal of advancing breakthrough sciences, technologies and products to strengthen Pfizer's R&D pipeline. The Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI), an entrepreneurial group wthin ES&I, is a proven and productive example of how Pfizer collaborate with leading academic medical centers and disease foundations with the aim of translating promising science into clinical candidates. We are proud to expand the CTI model to the Asia Pacific regions by establishing Shanghai based CTI-Asia Discovery Labs (CTI-ADL) supported by senior R&D representatives in key academic hubs to promote and advance R&D innovations and investments in the regions leveraging Pfizer global R&D capabilities and network of partners.

The CTI-ADL is looking for a highly talented and motivated protein scientist for Protein Science Function. The successful candidate will build internal protein science capabilities including molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, as well as biophysical and biochemical characterization. S/he will also provide scientific knowledge and technical expertise to collaborations with academic and biotech labs and support internal portfolio projects. S/he will work closely with other functions in ADL and WRDM to evaluate and internalize novel technologies.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As a member of Protein Science group, the successful candidate will execute a range of gene-to-protein experiments (construct design/engineering, expression, purification, and characterization)
  • Establish in house protein-based biochemical and biophysical assays for characterization of mode of actions of small molecule and mAB programs
  • Contribute to antibody discovery including antigen generation, various display technologies, antibody screening and characterization
  • Design and generate AAV transgene constructs. Perform molecular and biochemical assays to support potential AAV gene therapy projects.
  • Extensive experience in basic research and a desire to continue in a laboratory-focused role.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum PhD (+3 yrs) /MS (+6 yrs) in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Life Science or related field
  • Strong expertise and hands-on experience conducting laboratory research in an academic or pharmaceutical setting.
  • Hands on experience in protein expression and purification, protein based biochemical and biophysical assay development.
  • Previous experience in drug development in pharmaceutical and/or biotech environment is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral English) and ability to articulate scientific results are a must
  • Proven track record of scientific productivity as evidenced by publications in scientific journals
  • Highly organized in terms of goal setting and achieving
  • Ability to succeed in a small, interactive, non-traditional drug-discovery environment
  • Ability to work in flexible working hours to accommodate the needs of a global working team spanning multiple time zones
