We are looking for a talented and driven Sr. Scientist ll/ Principal Scientist l cancer biologist with substantial experience in target validation and mechanistic biology to join our dynamic target biology team in South San Francisco. The successful candidate will play a key role in the identification and validation of novel targets that present cancer selective dependencies. The position requires excellent critical thinking and multitasking skills, as well as the ability to help drive early-stage drug discovery by developing and implementing a variety of biochemical and cell-based methods to elucidate target function and enable small molecule screening efforts. Above all, we are looking for a highly motivated and collaborative individual with a passion for oncology research, who enjoys working in a fast-paced and highly dynamic working environment. Key Responsibilities Designing and executing experiments to inform cancer target biology using a variety of approaches, including CRISPR-mediated cell line engineering, analysis of signaling pathway and characterization of cell death mechanisms Utilizing knockdown, knockout, knockin and over-expression of protein for target validation Identifying and validating pharmacodynamic readouts for novel oncology targets Oversee the generation and analysis of high-quality experimental data to identify and confirm the mechanism of action of lead compounds identified through target discovery efforts Presenting data and findings across various platforms, including project teams and extended research and discovery organization meetings Using decision making, organizations and communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues from cross-functional teams Maintain an up-to-date understanding of new technologies and relevant scientific advances in tumor dependencies and its roles in cancer from literature and scientific meetings Qualifications Senior Scientist II: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 12 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, PhD and typically 4 years of experience. Principal Research Scientist I: BS or equivalent education and extensive, typically 14+ years of experience; MS or equivalent education with typically 12+ years of experience; PhD with typically 6+ years of experience in area or scientific area of discipline Hands on experience in lentiviral production and transduction, stable cell line development and CRISPS-cased gene editing Proficient in nucleic acid extraction/purification, qRT-PCR, western blotting, WES, ELISA and other cell and molecular biology techniques A strong record of achievement, including publications in high-impact journal Exceptional scientific rigor and commitment to the highest-quality research with outstanding organizational abilities and scientific execution Experience managing/mentoring junior scientists Ability to manage more than one project at any given time and to work successfully in a cross-functional and highly collaborative team environment Exceptional communication, both speech and writing, to a variety of audiences Significant Work Activities N/A Travel Yes, 10 % of the Time Job Type Experienced Schedule Full-time Job Level Code M Equal Employment Opportunity At AbbVie, we value bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to develop new and innovative solutions for patients.
