Position Summary

Abbott Diagnostics Business currently has an opportunity for an experienced Senior Software Engineer, Python who will contribute to the development and maintenance of Maintenance and Diagnostic procedures for diagnostic test analyzers. You will support and implement IronPython scripts. You developmental and test work will rely heavily on a comprehensive knowledge of theory and design. You will use both software simulation and working on real hardware in a laboratory setting during your development activities. You will have the ability to support stakeholders world-wide.

This position can be based in our Abbott Park (Lake County), IL or Irving, TX office.

The ideal candidate is someone who has a passion for development and working on complex system software; takes pride in building top-quality software; and is driven to achieve operational excellence.

What You’ll Do:  

• Software development responsibilities include executing software development life cycle activities from software requirements, design and implementation through design verification.
• Develop, test and integrate software using current software technologies.
• Responsible for fault isolation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis activities during system integration and testing for systems in development and On-Market.
• Able to apply the latest software design and development tools and techniques as required.
• Ability to work with cross functional teams to maintain/advance the Maintenance and Diagnostics strategy and held accountable for the work output.

Education & Experience You’ll Bring:  

Required  

• Associates degree required; Bachelor’s in Electrical or Computer Science or related engineering or scientific field strongly preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience

Preferred  

• Excellent knowledge of programming concepts using scripting languages such as Python, Perl or Ruby.
• Familiar with Microsoft .NET technology framework and object-oriented programming concepts.
• Knowledge of the Agile software development lifecycle.
• Effective troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to manage priorities effectively to drive multiple projects forward in parallel as necessary.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
