Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. The Research Materials Management team (RMM) is seeking to fill a Software Engineer position at its Thousand Oaks facility. In this vital role your responsibilities will include software development, business analysis, and project management responsibilities in support of a collection of related research applications.

Software development activities will include development of code to integrate lab automation and instrumentation, and code to extract, transform, and load data between lab applications, informatics management systems, and analysis tools.

Business analyst responsibilities are required to set future direction for the primary Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software providers.

Project management responsibilities include coordination with vendor and IS counterparts for deployment of internal and COTS applications. This hands-on position also includes working directly with lab staff on issue resolution and with management for collection of team performance metrics. This is a fast-paced role that will be a combination of remote and onsite work where every project is unique.

  • Develop SQL queries and Pipeline Pilot scripts to enhance user access to inventory and process data
  • Develop code to integrate multiple research applications using a variety of available tools including database features, web services, APIs, etc.
  • Work closely with our scientists to elucidate requirements, design a solution, and rapidly iterate on development and test cycles until the solution is accepted and productive.
  • Work with scientists and software vendors to define future directions and enhancements to COTS applications
  • Coordinate with IS counterparts on testing and deployment of relevant applications

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

Or

Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience

Or

Associate’s degree and 10 years of related experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in computer science, or a relevant field.
  • Experience developing and optimizing SQL queries and Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures
  • Experience with data handling and visualization tools like Pipeline Pilot, Tableau, Spotfire, R, etc.
  • Experience with application integration using APIs, Web services, distributed queries, etc.
  • Experience in Microsoft Visual Studio, C#, WPF, and the .NET framework to develop desktop and web applications.
  • Experience in using and troubleshooting Windows server computers
  • Experience with COTS research materials management software, e.g. Titian Mosaic, Biovia Samples, BioAscent Compound Management.
  • Pharmaceutical or lab experience is a bonus
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • High level of self-motivation
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated successful interpersonal relationships with peers and colleagues in other scientific teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams to scale a process from a manual proof-of-concept to automated operation.
