ABOUT ABBOTT

Our location in Abbott Park, IL currently has an opportunity for a Senior Specialist Environmental Health & Safety. The position develops, implements and monitors programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental, health and safety regulations both locally for Abbott Park as well as supporting all 5 divisions globally. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Oversee the local hazardous waste program to ensure Divisional personnel implement and maintain the ongoing program in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare ongoing regulatory compliance documents related to various air/water/waste/community right to know/other regulatory programs.
  • Develops and provides training (hazardous waste, internal management standards, technical programs, sustainability goals) for employees locally and globally.
  • Works independently most of the time and uses judgment in data analysis to develop and design solutions to difficult health and safety problems.
  • Serves as a resource to division management and EHS staff on matters relating to environmental compliance, sustainability, and general safety.  
  • Provides on call support for EHS emergencies in Lake County.
  • Conducts ISO 14001 /ISO45001 gap assessments and internal audits.
  • Works under the supervision of the EHS Manager, while also working independently to solve day-to-day problems.
  • Applies professional experience and education to develop innovative and practical solutions to local and Divisional challenges.
  • Supports facility Emergency Response, Fire Plan and release reporting actions.
  • Complies with U.S. EPA regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.
  • Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required

  • B.S. Degree in Environmental Engineering or related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Environmental, Health and Safety field with both hands on and program management experience.
  • Ability to navigate and interpret EHS regulations.
  • Expected to function with little direction and be able to independently drive complex projects to completion.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and daily responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
