Staff Accountant

 

  • A key member of the hotel's accounting deparment, the Staff Accountant will ensure accurate accounting policies and procedures are upheld during payroll, daily journal entries, and month end.

    What you will be doing:
  • Reporting to the Regional Controller, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible in assisting with the hotel’s labor management and payroll system
  • Maintain system of accounts and controls, providing accurate data necessary for all required accounting reports and statements.
  • Prepare and audit daily journals and month end journal entries, ensuring efficient completion of all month-end functions
  • Assist in the completion of financial statements, management reports in accordance with Corporate Policies & Procedures for review.
  • Assist in the preparation of month-end balance sheet account reconciliation and analysis.
  • Responsible for the supervision of the Hotel’s payroll system, management of union benefits, vacation and PTO.
  • Assist departments in the interpretation, orientation, training and analysis of accounting matters.
  • Co-ordinate and ensure that all daily, semi-monthly and monthly management reports are issued on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Participate in the participation of the Annual Operating & Capital Budgets, Strategic Plan, and Monthly Operating Forecasts, Labor analysis and payroll management
  • Assist in the effective utilization and integration of hotel and accounting technology systems, including software applications, current and future.
  • Develop an engaged, enthusiastic and guest driven department.
  • Represent the accounting office and the Assistant Controller in their absence.
  • Actively contribute to hotel overall leadership and direction.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Your experience and skills include:

  • Professional designation or acceptable university degree with an appropriate specialization in Accounting and Payroll management or enrolled in a recognized accounting program with progression.
  • Minimum of 3 years-accounting experience and previous accounting experience at a supervisory/managerial level.
  • Proven leadership and coaching skills with a track record of developing a highly motivated and cross-trained group of progressive accounting professionals.
  • Familiarity with hotel operating systems and software, including Ceridian Payroll System, ADP Timesaver, Hyperion, Microsoft Office, Excel , Opera, Delphi,
  • Excellent administrative, interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Prolonged sitting, keyboarding and mousing. 
  • Occasional lifting up to 25lbs.
