Power Applications Engineer in Power Module Group: 

 

Job responsibilities:

 

  • Support new product definitions, advanced technology research and development, performance improvements and evaluations: 

  • Advanced technology and research including power topologies, control methods and implementations, contributing new product ideas and using design and simulation tools to validate the performance of new product ideas. 

  • Perform system level simulation and analysis of new designs. 

  • Interface with IC and module designers to define, develop and validate features and functions of industry-best power products 

 

  • Driving the development of power application solutions to optimize converters and systems for broad applications: 

  • Designing, simulating, implementing high performance power solutions for broad applications, such as data center, server, telecom, industrial and automotive applications. This task requires strong skills in developing power management circuit schematics, PCB layout and hardware evaluations including efficiency, thermal, ripples, EMI, load transient, loop gain optimizations. 

  • Developing demo/eval boards for new power products and solutions: 

  • Designing and developing evaluation solutions to evaluate and validate the features and functions of new power solutions. 

  • Developing reference design boards for specific key customers. 

  • Activities include schematic design, layout design, prototype evaluation with detailed evaluation reports. 

  • Understand and optimize solution’s electrical, thermal and mechanical performances and reliability.   

  • Developing design and simulation tools and circuits. 

  • LTspice and Simplis simulation model/circuit development and validation. 

  • LTpowerCAD design tool modeling and development. 

  • Other required simulation / design tools 

  • Supporting field team and customers: 

  • Promote current and upcoming products 

  • Get field inputs and new product ideas for world class solutions. 

  • Answer technical questions and help to solve difficult technical problem. Review and improve customers’ designs. 

  • Provide reference designs and develop custom demo boards. 

  • Provide technical trainings to field and customers. 

  

       - Technical writing, presentations, and trainings 

  

 

 

Required Education, experiences, and skills: 

  

  • MSEE or Ph.D. degree in Power Electronics. 

  • Minimum 5-year experience of switching power converter designs and minimum 3-year working experience in this field.  

  • Enjoy analog and power circuit designs, simulations, build and lab testing. 

  • Strong background of analog circuit, power electronics and power systems. Strong  DC/DC power converter (Buck, Boost, etc) design and optimization experiences and skills. Good knowledge and experience of transformer-based power converters (Flyback, forward, etc.) 

  • Strong analytic skills. Good knowledge and skills of power converter modeling, control architecture and loop design, static and dynamic performance optimizations.   

  • Familiar with circuit design/simulation tools (SPICE /LTspice, Simplis, LTpowerCAD, MathCAD /Matlab, etc) and lab equipment for power applications. 

  • Firmware, DPS or FPGA programming and I2C/PMbus experience a plus. 

  • Analog IC design knowledge a plus. 

  • Magnetic design and simulation, thermal analysis knowledge and experience a plus. 

  • Good technical writing and presentation skills 

  • Must possess good communication skills and have ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
