Job Description

BACKGROUND


The Academic Services Office (ASO) is a new unit established within the Centre for Academic Affairs (CAA) to support the Vice President, Academic Affairs (VPAA) and to provide administrative coordination across the university for a broad range of key academic functions.


ROLE OVERVIEW


Reporting to the Staff Management Team Leader, the Staff Management Officer will facilitate the processes of staff recruitment and contract renewal, professional development review, and promotions for all academic staff.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


  • Liaises closely with the Human Resources Office to ensure support for staff recruitment processes

  • Assists in the maintenance and operation of the system of Professional Development Review for staff

  • Assists in the management of staff promotion processes

  • Maintains academic management and CAA professional services role descriptors

  • Assists in the organisation and coordination Heads of Department Training Programme

  • Maintains Handbook for Heads of Department

  • Support for external teaching awards

  • Assist in the development of the Academic Services Office

  • Any other duties required by the Staff Management Team Leader and/or the Head of ASO

PERSON SPECIFICATION


Essential


  • Bachelor degree or higher or significant relevant professional qualifications

  • Expertise and experience in staff recruitment

  • High-level oral and written communication skills in English

  • Good personal organisation skills

  • A clear, logical thinker

  • Confident, assertive, proactive and able to take responsibility for own actions

  • Experience of administrative work

  • Experience of working in an international environment and well-developed cultural awareness

  • Attention to detail in completing and processing forms and data

  • Ability to work independently and also as part of a team

  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Flexibility in working in a wider team of academic support to university activities

Experience of administrative work in a Higher Education environment
