YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Staff Research Scientist, are to: 

 

• Generate ideas for new experimental models and test systems including ideas and proposals for external collaborations;

• Independently develop and refine new ex vivo/in vivo models;

• Independently design experimental studies, including Go/No-Go criteria, and interprets data;

• Lead cross-functional early research projects, especially for external collaborations;

• Develop and evaluate new methods, techniques and assays;

• Recommend revised procedures for new or unique applications;

• Keep abreast of current technology in area of specialty;

• Collect and compile data and records in laboratory notebook;

• Ensure laboratory notebooks are consistently updated, audited and well maintained.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Ph.D. with a minimum of four years of experience;
  • Postdoc with at least of one or two years of experience;
  • Equivalent related experience will supersede the degree;
  • Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors;
  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criterion for obtaining results;
  • Develops assays, tests or experiments;
  • Be able to determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other lower level personnel;
  • Be able to prepare reports with interpretation and can interpret the results of complex experiments;
  • Have qualifictions and experience either in vivo work or vitro/ex vivo microfluids
  • Qualifications and experience (proven track record) with respect to in vivo work include:
  • Mouse handling (IP, IV, SC injection and oral gavage; catheter implantation);
  • Mouse colony management;
  • Blood collection (vena cava, retro orbital and intra-cardiac collection);
  • Terminal and survival surgery in mouse; mouse Models of hemostasis and thrombosis (tail clip, saphenous vein bleeding model, acute tail vein transection, FeCl3-induced carotid or mesenter injury, pulmonary embolism and vena cava ligation);
  • Qualifications and experience (proven track record) with respect to in vitro/ex vivo microfluidics include:
  • Epifluorescence and confocal microscopy;
  • Sample preparation and staining for IF;
  • Image analysis; use of metamorph, micro-manager and Image J software;
  • Experience with Organ-on-a-Chip (vessel, lung or kidney models) and
    microfluidic chip design.
