The Staff Scientist will imagine and implement solutions for genetic analysis problems using the deep Thermo Fisher Scientific tools portfolio. The scientist will work collaboratively with product management, bioinformatics, manufacturing, and other R&D teams to develop applications that will align with basic, translational and clinical researchers’ needs. The scientist will drive the products that result from development efforts through concept, feasibility, development, and commercialization and align with the needs of business leaders. The scientist will promote Thermo Fisher Scientific solutions to potential customers by authoring technical literature and presenting at scientific conferences. The scientist will actively communicate and collaborate with thought leaders to grow new solutions.

Essential Functions:
- Design, plan and execute experiments that support development of new products and solutions.
- Critically analyzes complex data using knowledge of the scientific field, interprets and integrates experimental results with project objectives.
- Responsible for technical leadership of projects and assay development
- Set clear product development timelines and prioritize efforts to deliver on commitments
- Identify and overcome gaps in resources and capabilities to insure continuation of ongoing product development functions
- Cross-train other team members in areas of expertise
- Contribute innovative ideas for new products and intellectual property.
- Collaborate with peers and cross functional teams.
- Write technical and business communications including papers and posters.
- Give effective internal and external presentations
- Develop procedures and documentation for manufacturing and testing of new and existing products.
- Support technical questions related to on-market products
- Contribute to evaluation of new license and co-development opportunities
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ph.D in molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics or similar field
- At least 5 years wet lab experience, preferably in biotech or pharma industry
- Intimate knowledge of nucleic acid chemistry, qPCR, capillary electrophoresis, and/or next generation sequencing technologies.
- Experience with technical data analysis software and genome/transcriptome databases
- Outstanding communication and collaboration skills
- Flexibility and adaptability in problem-solving approaches and solution implementation
- Experience with stage-gated development process
- Driven to deliver quality results on time and in a highly ethical and professional manner
- Demonstrated resourcefulness, strategic and analytical thinking, directed toward achieving objectives
