Microsoft Taiwan is a mini ROC subsidiary in Microsoft terminology, its business is complex and diverse includes Volume license, Hardware, Cloud, Services, OEM/COEM, online, Retail stores, R&D etc, the statutory revenue varies from commission (Cost Plus or Retail minus) and 3rd party billing for over $0.5B annually with nearly 400 FTEs, together with intense intercompany transactions. Microsoft Taiwan is present in the region since 1997 and has been a key enabler of the market IT growth through solid partnership with local Governments, Enterprise, small and medium as well as IT partners and consumer partners of the region. MS Taiwan Finance team has the responsibility to partner with sales and marketing teams with the incremental complexity of supporting two legal entities MS Taiwan and MS Mobile (ex-Nokia). Microsoft Finance is a truly global finance team and you will be part of the WW community of Stat & Tax Controllers to make each other great and build on each other.
Responsibilities
The Statutory & Tax Controller is responsible for timely and accurate completion of all statutory and tax filings, including the local statutory financial statements. Where applicable, the role involves training Finance and business stakeholders on tax or statutory requirements and working with external service providers such as Accenture, EY, or KMPG as well as external parties such as the external auditors or the tax authorities.

For all legal entities in the subsidiary including JV if any, impacting MS financial statements:
- Accountable for accurate stat records and timely annual financial statements in compliance with US GAAP, local GAAP and local statutory and tax regulation.
- Accountable for all internal control process and procedures regarding accounting (CR4 T1 for balance sheet and PnL) and tax filling etc.
- Review and sign off on balance sheet reconciliations + variance analysis.
- Monitor, review, and oversee the Stat & Tax work of One Finance to ensure best ROI. Where applicable, manage accounting ops to ensure financial report integrity and completeness.
- Manage external auditor relationship. For Limited Risk Distribution subs (LRD’s), partner with the Center of Excellence at the Regional Operating Center to effectively manage the external audit.
- Accountable for accurate and timely tax filings, including indirect taxes and direct tax.
- Where applicable, support & educate the business on tax model (commissioned agent v LRD
- Support audits from local tax authorities or other government agencies.
- Land global projects in the subsidiary of operation, as well as subsidiary-driven expansions, with proper financial infrastructure and statutory registration in compliance with local accounting, tax regulations as well as MS global processes.
- Identify all non-standard management transactions (e.g. cross-charges, accruals, commission changes) and review their statutory implications before any decision to proceed
- Communicate to the Corp Tax team any important changes in local tax legislation that could affect the MS business model (e.g. changes in local transfer pricing legislation)
- Responsible to maintain local transfer pricing file in line with local legislation and in collaboration with Corp tax
- Standardize and centralize processes of where may fit
- Proceed MS Mobile liquidation by working with different functions and external firms.
- Lead and manage Taiwan stat & tax team
Qualifications
- About 8 to 10 years of active experience in similar role, preferably in MNCs
+15~18 years of experience in finance or similar positions (ie. Big 4 firms etc)
- Statutory (Local GAAP, US GAAP) Accounting, Controlling, strong Tax knowledge (including indirect / direct taxes) is a plus
- Reasonable level of bank and treasure knowledge is also required
- Preferred MBA degree in Finance, Economics, CA/CPA/ACCA is strongly desired
