Job Description

The Structure Manufacturing Engineer Spec:

  • Defines, leads and manages all requirements for project planning, installation, start-up and acceptance, as well as provides engineering support of new installations and optimization measures of the structure, conveyor and equipment technology in assembly.
  • Provides project management and/or support for Assembly Department engineering projects, including equipment (Robotics, lift assists, etc) and structural (conveyors, mezzanines, civil, etc.).
  • Drives and completes successfully assigned structure projects & tasks.
  • Project oriented planning and realization of measures in collaboration with the internal customers as well as external suppliers.
  • Determines the optimum solutions in regard to costs, quality, ergonomics, technical innovation and environment.
  • Performs project evaluations identifying/capturing gaps, dependencies, resources, risks, and financial impact.
  • Maintains and steers financial overviews and generates spending forecasts.
  • Tracks the project landscape, creates/adjusts overall schedules or plans.
  • Provides cost estimation (Invest, Budget), technical specification and request for quotes.
  • Evaluates, coordinates and compiles bidder circle, call for bids, offer evaluation, recommendation for the award of contract.
  • Ensures all assigned projects are on schedule and at or under approved budget (Assembly variance to budget).
  • Plans and realizes high complex projects with a financial volume up to 50 million.
  • Deals with internal and external vendors and customers and collaborates with the management teams.
  • Schedules/facilitates and documents meetings.
  • Manages open issue list, prepares presentations. Prepares and steers workshops or other activities. .
  • Maintains and presents project status and overviews to management.
  • Acceptance of the equipment from the suppliers and handing over to the operator.
  • Develops and implements equipment countermeasures to improve equipment reliability.
  • Ensures all structure and equipment design is capable of 98% uptime (Assembly equipment uptime).
  • Ensures all assigned countermeasures are developed on schedule and effective (Assembly countermeasures).
  • Ensures minimal impact to operations with project implementations.
  • Understands and models VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving.
  • Adheres to 5S and Safety Standards and Principles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering preferred) or the equivalent of 4 years of engineering experience in the automotive industry.
  • 5+ years of structure planning, project steering/leadership & support experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering environment (automotive process or automotive).
  • 3+ years of experience of managing projects including experience with structural modification measures in several equipment and/or controls planning projects.
  • 5+ years evaluation, organization, multi-tasking, and presentation skills.
  • 3+ years verbal and written communication skills.
  • 3+ years computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project Out task, etc.).
  • 3+ years German language (preferred).
  • 3+ years ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • 3+ years knowledge of organizational processes (budgeting, resource management).
  • 1+ years ability to use and apply statistical methods to aid with analysis (risk filters, FMEAs, SPC, process/machine capability).
