Job Description

Responsible for providing counselling services for students at KGV. The successful candidate will be part of a Student Support Services team which includes two Social Worker, another Student Counsellor plus Emotional Learning Support Advisors and specialist teachers.

Student Counselling
- Provide confidential personal counselling for students as individuals and groups;
- Work with families as and when necessary;
- Maintain and monitor effective referral mechanisms, both for teachers and students;
- Liaise with student development staff to ensure effective flow of information;
- Employ appropriate assessment and screening tools.

Programme Work
- Work on Health & Well being initiatives and with teaching teams to develop and implement health and well being programmes.

Community support
- Identify and respond to trends in student needs;
- Work with colleagues in the Access / Learning Support Teams as required;
- Develop and maintain relationships with government and community support services.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree (postgraduate qualifications preferred).
• Recognized Higher Degree in counseling, social work, educational psychology or other relevant discipline.
• Professional registration with recognized body. Minimum three years post-qualification practice with young people, preferably in an international school setting (but we are willing to consider those with highly relevant, transferable experience and skills).
• Fluent English speaker (near native level) – critical for nuanced, sophisticated and sensitive understanding. Cantonese is a bonus but not essential.
• Willingness to maintain professional competency through professional development and networking.
• A consideration of different cultural sensitivities and approaches to well being, plus the utmost respect for confidentiality of service.
• A sound understanding of, and ability to work within, an existing counsellor's Code of Ethics.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people and institutions, including teachers, parents, students, social worker, associated professionals, government agencies and NGOs
• Ability to employ screening suitable for school context
• Sound understanding of relevant policies and procedures and the role of external agencies, and the ability to refer when required
• Experience of Art Therapy would be an advantage
