Position Overview: Eaton’s Utility sector has an opening for a Supervisor – Embedded Software, Grid Automation, who is passionate about developing and managing a high performing engineering organization focused on developing best in class software and system solutions that manage our proven smart grid technologies. Eaton is accelerating and leading the industry with its digital offerings to utility customers. In this role, you will manage a software team responsible for the development and evolution of Eaton’s embedded devices and their software tools, which are used by hundreds of utility customers. We strive to deliver dependable, simplified, and best-in-class solutions to help utilities leverage their assets and manage a smarter grid. Essential Responsibilities: Recruit, lead, manage and mentor an agile global engineering team, including Software Architects, Technical Leads, Developers, and Testers, which designs, implements, tests and supports features of one or more embedded products. Management responsibilities include technical facilitation, budget allocation, hiring, one-on-one meetings with directs, performance reviews, career guidance, technical capability assessments, software selection, and interfacing with internal and external partners. Managing budgets, project schedules, contracts, training, and staffing needs to support one or more projects of the portfolio. Contribute to the development of project specifications, ensuring their alignment with test specifications and test plans. Provide input to project planning by estimates of development activities. Ensure effective cooperation with other divisions and product lines, engineering/Innovation centers, as well as internal and external service providers/partners to meet requirements. Secure compliance with internal and CCoE standards and regulations as well as adherence of engineering processes to ISO 9001. Collaborate and engage across all software teams and CoEs throughout the Digital Organization to build a culture of code sharing, inner-sourcing, and reusable platform components. Collect data across software projects to effectively communicate viable metrics used to evaluated project statuses, customer defect agility, and on time to release. Align team to consistent SDLC process, tools, and metrics. Ability to manage geographically dispersed teams Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Information Systems 8+ years of experience in software development Proven knowledge of embedded systems, operating systems, real-time multitasking, and communication protocols. Proven experience in resource leadership and task management Working knowledge of integrating with IoT/connected devices Abreast of upcoming software development/engineering tools, trends, and methodologies Understanding of object-oriented design and programming skills, including the use of design patterns Work proficiently in French and English Must be legally entitled to work in Canada without corporate sponsorship Travel: up to 10% Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business 5+ years of experience in managing engineering or IT organizations PMP certification Prior experience developing software for embedded devices, creating APIs and desktop applications Proven hands-on experience with C++ Experience ensuring cybersecurity practices in embedded software and desktop applications Experience leading and coaching new and experienced software developers or engineers Experience working in the electric utility market and/or power system knowledge Soft Skills: Teamwork, communication, strong interpersonal skills across cultural and organizational boundaries. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively explain complex technical concepts to a wide variety of audiences, high learning agility, great follow thru in meeting commitments.
