Position Summary:
The Supervisor, Export Trade Compliance is responsible for ensuring compliant export activity Fisher Scientific Company of Thermo Fisher Scientific. This includes, without limitation, adherence to all applicable U.S. and non-U.S. laws and regulations pertaining to international trade as well as ensuring compliance with Thermo Fisher Scientific corporate policies.
Agencies with whom the Supervisor may interface include, but are not limited to, the U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and its Census Bureau, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the U.S. State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), as well as non-U.S. competent authorities (e.g., Her Majesty’s Customs).
Key Responsibilities:
- The Supervisor participates in, and has oversight of, training activities for his/her direct reports pertaining to export regulations (e.g., related to classification of goods, software, and technology; embargoed and of concern countries; license applications; denied parties screening; completion of export documents; etc.) and also is responsible for the maintenance and development of business unit internal controls (policies and procedures) to ensure compliance with the various regulations.
- The Supervisor is also responsible for internal auditing the teams job performance as relevant to the internal work procedures and level of compliance with US export regulations as well as helping determine and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- The Supervisor will be responsible for regular assesement of the teams value streams to determine evicencies and effectiveness and will make recommendations and adjustments where needed.
- Demonstrable experience of stakeholder/relationship management with a client focused approach to work. Strong ability to understand the business implications of decisions and impact on customers both internal and external.
- Very good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills across cultures including experience in making presentations at conferences, meetings, training sessions
- Affinity, willingness and ability to initiate and complete business development tasks
- An effective people leader with a commitment to developing employees. Ability to delegate effectively, meeting commitments while developing people
- Ability to attract and retain highly motivated staff. Ability to support the development of individual direct reports including appliance of appropriate appraisal style, to mentor, encourage and support team members

- Advocate for Global Trade Compliance includes the planning, design, development, and transition into a standardized, cross-functional process with clear roles and responsibilities as well as any existing system enhancements or system developments to monitor and report Global Trade

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
3-5 years experience in international compliance and operations focused on exports Desirable, but not mandatory, are any or all of the following: technical or scientific background, experience in logistics 3-5 years management experience
