Job Overview
Coordinate all material aspects of basic Changeover events, ensuring the smooth, timely and successful transition of purchased goods, services, and materials into production systems. Maintain a working knowledge of the dynamics of Purchasing, Materials and Engineering systems and sub-systems and how they interface with other departments within the corporation, utilizing latest business system and efficiency skills.
Responsibilities
- Interface with purchasing and suppliers to establish and ensure the optimum utilization and flow of material into production.
- Address issues regarding shipping, pack quantities, packaging, racking, returns and disposition of material.
- Develop working product knowledge of parts being controlled at both Truck and Part Manufacturing Plants, including assembly practices, and how they relate to production material flow.
- Monitor data loaded to Purchase Part Schedule (PPS) to ensure information is compatible between Engineering, Purchasing, Materials and Production.
- Review and resolve PPS issues and correct areas of concern and miscommunication.
- Participate in supplier selection for upcoming changeover events.
- Evaluate and monitor both in-house and supplier “Tooling Scheduled Completion Date” to ensure material availability for initial and pre-production requirements. Review with Manufacturing Engineering any tooling issues and how they will interface with the material flow through the parts manufacturing plants and tooling houses.
- Respond to any preseries and production issues that may result in initial start up, preseries, or production orders.
- Coordinate meetings with appropriate personnel.
- Communicate logistics concerns and work towards a timely resolution and preseries approval.
- Manage acquisition codes, initiate orders and releases with suppliers.
- Follow-up with suppliers to insure orders are on schedule and delivered on time.
- Process the material planning, major components and supplier notification systems to meet production demands.
- Transfer parts from successful implementation of changeover events to Corporate Material Planning.
- Coordinate with new suppliers and Freightliner personnel the effective transmission and utilization of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI); ensuring the working effectiveness of the protocol (830, 862, 866 and Advance Shipping Notification (ASN) downloads) as well as supplier and project readiness.
- Monitor changes in production schedules and inventories to insure orders and material flows are adjusted to meet production demands with limited material obsolescence.
- Expedite and coordinate shortages between suppliers, traffic departments and plants.
- Understand and support LEAN manufacturing and support DTNA’s vision for “TOS”.
- Excellent business reporting system skills to best grow efficiencies within this role and the department.
- Demonstrated proficiency using information systems reporting tools and desktop automation (Microsoft Excel or Visual Basic).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics, Business Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited university/college required
