Responsible for managing the Primark Sustainable Cotton Programme and other sustainable material initiatives in China. Provides the interfaces and on-the-ground coordination for the farming, sourcing and manufacturing of sustainable material. Supports sourcing processes with buying and merchandising teams purchasing sustainable material in Primark DBO and RBO offices.

Responsibilities/ Key Tasks

• Responsible for management of sustainable material initiatives in China

• Provides hands-on support to farmers, factories manufacturing yarn or products for Primark using sustainable material.

• Provides in-country support to buying teams for sustainable material.

• Coordinates programmes to source and verify sustainable material products

  Programme Strategy

• Implements programme strategy for sustainable material in China

• Contributes to development of standard operating procedures for suppliers and buyers for working with sustainable material supply chains in China

• Contributes to the strategy for future expansion of sustainable material sourcing in China

• Actively contributes to product forecasting with buying teams in regard to using sustainable material in China

• Initial prioritisation of REEL cotton from the Primark Sustainable Cotton Programme, looking to expand to other areas e.g. organic in the future

  Monitoring

• Supports training and communications to suppliers in China on sourcing and manufacturing with sustainable material

• Proactively visits factories, spinning and ginning mills to check that the sustainable material is being handled correctly

• Proactively implements and monitors progress for all sustainable material initiatives in China at different stages of the supply chain

• Project management of collaboration with Cotton Connect and other sustainable material partners in country.

• Proactively supports buying teams to communicate with suppliers on above

Knowledge & Experience

• Experience in cotton agriculture, other sustainable material, and textile manufacturing

Team Management

• Works closely with the Senior Environmental Manager in China to align supplier communications, site visit programmes, training and use of tools/resources.

• Helps the team to manage all sustainable material initiatives in China.

• Liaises with Cotton Co-ordinator in other countries- sharing information and best practices.

• Organises and manages all trips of ABF and Primark teams to material initiatives in China

• Actively supports Environmental Sustainability Projects Manager on implementation of the programme to source more sustainable material in products.

• Actively supports the Senior Environmental Manager China on implementation of HIGG FEM, DETOX Roadmap and other environmental requirements

  External stakeholder engagement

• Acts as strategic leader for third parties involved in sustainable material initiatives

• Manages visits by senior teams, media and others to programme sites including farms

• Proactive engagement with China Ethical Trade team to ensure alignment

• Engages suppliers and factories through buying teams

  Reporting & Data

• Provides frequent reporting on progress

• Ensures security of data and integrity of information used and shared

• Provides content support for external environmental sustainability rankings and media

• Provides content support for the website and external reporting e.g. annual CSR Report

• Reporting for Primark Environmental Controller and ABF as required
