Position: Sustainable Operations Manager, North East Asia (China including Taiwan, Korea, Japan)
Reporting to: Director, Global Responsible Sourcing
Work Location: :Shanghai or Guangzhou, China
Key Purpose of the Job:
The Sustainable Operations Manager, North East Asia is accountable for leading a team that drives results for VF’s Responsible Sourcing department in China (including Taiwan), Korea, and Japan. Partnering with VF factories and material suppliers to drive improvements in all responsible sourcing topics, including worker safety, chemistry, environmental sustainability, traceability and Worker and Community Development projects. The Manager will also be responsible for recruiting and managing regional staff to achieve results. This position is the key leader for all Responsible Sourcing activities in North East Asia, and will be a strategic leader within VF’s Responsible Sourcing program.
Key Areas of Management for Regional Team:
Environmental Sustainability
Ensure factory location’s understanding of Higg Index Environmental and Social Modules.
Review and evaluate Higg Index Environmental and Social Modules self-assessments.
Perform gap/root-cause analysis on factory location’s environmental and social sustainability based on Higg Index Environmental and Social Modules.
Drive improved environmental and social sustainability performance at factory locations by proactively working with factory management to build Management Systems.
Engage factory location employee base directly by providing training sessions as required.
Track and report progress through use of Higg Index Environmental and Social Modules.
Maintain awareness of key sustainability trends in Greater China and internationally.
Build agreed HIGG index targets and a road map for the factory to reach the target.
Worker and Community Development
Build, through research and external support, a comprehensive understanding of the worker livelihood challenges in their local community.
Develop a Sustainable Living Environments (SLE) approach, based on VF’s Responsible Sourcing strategies, to continuously improve workers’ livelihood
Facilitate the SLE project to drive well-being in communities
Regularly review performance with factory and VF management, along with workers themselves, to ensure the SLE programs are improving the workers lives and creating value at the factory.
Compliance and Life Safety
Support VF compliance department to build awareness at factory locations about VF audit protocol. ( Such as, delivery of training to factory, assist the development of Corrective Action Plan, serving as consultant to CSR relevant policy development & implementation in the factory)
Support VF’s life safety programs at factory locations by building awareness and management systems to address key electrical, fire, and safety issues. ( Such as, develop & delivery training to factory, helping factory to roll out the life safety program in the factory)
Provide assistance and training to VF Factory Improvement Coordinators assigned to Responsible Sourcing Specialist’s factory locations.
Traceability
Support Product and Raw Material traceability objectives at factory locations ( such as, data verification through on-site visits, helping factory to roll out relevant programs, etc.)
Chemistry
Provide training and capacity building to support factory with implementation of VF’s Chem-IQ program.
Reporting to Product Stewardship and Traceability department for Chem-IQ implementation.
Recruiting & Training
Assist in regional recruitment and training of new staff
Major Challenge:
Significant travel to factory locations within China (including Taiwan), Korea, and Japan, and other occasional international travel required.

Number of Subordinates Indirectly Reporting to this Position: 6
Minimum Relevant Experience: 10-15 years or above
Minimum Supervisory Experience: 5+ years
Required Professional Qualification:
1. Wrap certified auditor is plus
2. Certified external / internal auditor of ISO 14001 is plus
Required Oral Language:
1. Excellent English
2. Regional languages preferred
Required Written Language:
1. Excellent English Skills
