Job Purpose / Overview

The job exists within Mars Wrigley to enable the delivery of the Mars Sustainable in a Generation Plan (SiGP), the Mars Wrigley Reinvention strategy by protecting Freedom To Operate (FTO) and differentiation of Mars Wrigley brands with customers and consumers.

The job purpose is primarily focused on the sustainability of Sugar Cane in Mexico, and secondarily the sustainability of Mint in the USA. 

The objective of the job is to manage Sugar Cane sustainable sourcing programs that ensure Mars sources from suppliers who uphold the rights of sugar cane plantation workers, and to run programs to share build capability and incentivize Mint farmers in the USA to adopt better management practices that raise yields, and reduce emissions and water use.

What are we looking for?

Knowledge/Experience

  • Degree or Masters in Agriculture, Biology, Sustainability or equivalent.
  • Language: Fluent English is REQUIRED (this position reports directly to US)
  • At least 4 years experience of implementing sustainable sourcing programs with the private sector or within development organisations is critical. Preferably this experience was gained in a commercial environment.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management is critical, ideally in an emerging economy environment.
  • Experience of delivering through others is critical.
  • Either experience working in Mexico is critical and in USA is preferred.
  • Experience leading and participating in industry coalitions and development partnerships is preferred.
  • Knowledge of in scope raw material supply chains is advantageous.

What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Build a sustainable supply of sugar cane from Mexican suppliers with Qualifying Programs to advance respect for human rights, and worker health and safety - by 2025
  • Deploy programs with Mint suppliers to build capability and incentivise innovation and adoption of better farming practices that raise yields, reduce emissinos and conserve water.
  • Ensure Mars approach to sustainable sourcing of Sugar Cane influences and leads the industry in Mexico.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress against SiGP KPIs, proactively monitor supply chains for unacceptable practices, and react to grievances In line with Mars sustainability positions and policies. Maintain accurate records of open and closed cases.
  • Support Corporate Affairs In building and protecting Mars Wrigley reputation in relation to the in scope raw materials.
  • Role model the 5 Principles of Mars Inc. internally and externally.
