System Engineering Expert – Software Quality and Reliability

In this role, you have the opportunity to support various Global Philips innovation projects to lead and realize software quality and reliability targets in product creation projects. These projects can cover every phase of the product life cycle, e.g. advanced development, product development, and launch and/or sustain.

You are responsible for:

You will be mainly involved in target setting, design in, proving and improving quality, reliability and regulatory (e.g. safety, security) aspects of the software in healthcare products. This role will play a crucial role in building up global Software (SW) Reliability Expertise in Philips Innovation Services and render expertise to Philips globally. You will use your technical knowledge both software engineering and reliability along with proactive design and problem-solving capabilities to connect to the engineering teams at several Philips innovation centers, to offer and execute consultancy and engineering support activities.

  • Apply and facilitate Design for SW Quality, Reliability, and Testing (DfX) standard methodologies in development projects.

  • Work with project leaders, system and SW architects and developers to identify and handle software requirements

  • Build up a network for SW Reliability expert services at the various Philips innovation sites. Easily accessible to architects, developers, and managers at the various innovation sites.

  • Support software developers at the innovation sites with a result-mind set, hands-on as well as mentorship approaches.

  • Lead and execute risk identification activities, e.g. set up the risk management plan, facilitate e.g. usability, SW design FMEA, fault tree analysis, …

  • Provide design and improvement solutions for Software Reliability problems in Healthcare systems.

  • Deploy standard methodologies for software quality, reliability and requirements engineering globally in Philips to R&D project teams or organizations via training and mentoring to improve maturity.

  • Identify improvement opportunities in Philips businesses and develop actionable proposals and plans to address these.

  • Run your activities and services according to good project management practices.

  • Optimize the reliability of software through a software reliability plan that emphasizes software fault prevention, fault detection and removal, and the use of measurements to monitor reliability growth.

  • Support teams to develop a robust, high-quality product through all of the stages of the SW lifecycle; requirements analysis, design, test design, and automation.

  • Minimize the risk of reliability-related failure outcomes related to scalability, availability, performance, and correctness.

Your team

The Product Quality & Reliability team is part of the Reliability Solutions service of Philips Innovation Services and is a dynamic group of more than 20 experts in the field of Reliability and Quality engineering. As part of the Q&R service, they have direct access to a broad range of product reliability tests- and material analyzes facilities and experts.

All are DfSS Green belt or Black Belt, active in designing in or improving the reliability of complex, innovative products and processes for our customers from both internal Philips businesses as well as external companies, located all over the world.

We are looking for

  • You have a Master’s degree in either Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering or Reliability Engineering; a relevant Ph.D. is a plus.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a professional Software development environment involving embedded software or operating systems with interests in Reliability aspects.

  • Certification in Software Quality Engineering (CSQE) from ASQ or other bodies is desirable.

  • Experience in crafting software reliability plans, operational profiles, software reliability objectives, software reliability requirements and metrics development, software development, integration and testing, traceability and management.

  • Expert level experience with Software Reliability Engineering (SRE) models including growth models:

Software fault-tolerant design, Fault prevention techniques implementation, software FMEA, and FTA, design for testability methods, Fault detection and removal activities including efficient test design & test automation.

  • High-level experience in code review techniques in a wide range of platforms, excellent problem-solving skills and root cause analysis in Software. Able to read and understand multiple programming languages.

  • Hands-on experience with both automated and manual software tests including tools from HP, IBM and Micro Focus, etc. is helpful.

  • In-depth knowledge and a consistent track record in implementing and applying concepts in the fields of designing in software reliability and problem-solving techniques, preferably in the Healthcare industry.

  • Excellent communication skills, able to clearly and concisely summarize complex technical problems.

  • Able to act like an entrepreneur with sufficient acquisition skills and be customer-focused.

  • You combine analytical and conceptual thinking, physical insight, system view, flexibility, and a hands-on attitude to deliver sustainable results and creative solutions.

  • You are a motivated self-propelling person, with determination to succeed and the ability to lead change.

  • You are able to inspire people, lead and mobilize teams, with training and mentoring capabilities.

  • You are willing to travel regularly within Europe and up to several weeks a year to visit other sites in US & Asia.
